The Cliffs at Gowanus is looking for a Summer Programs Coordinator to lead our full-day, weekly programs during the summer season!

The Cliffs Summer Programs offers weekly rock climbing programs for youth ages 6-12 as well as a dedicated Teen Camp week for youth ages 13-17. Participants attend weekly sessions and work with our dedicated youth coaching staff on ropes + boulders.

Working underneath the facility Head of Youth Programs direction, the Summer Programs Coordinator will serve as the main on-site manager for The Cliffs Summer full-day Weekly Programs.

This seasonal position will have regular hours Monday-Friday typically 8:00 AM-4:00 PM for the duration of the summer camp programming (June 19-August 25) with training dates + prep time in early June.

This Seasonal Full-time position comes with limited benefits, including:

The Summer Programs Coordinator responsibilities may include:

• Working on-site during Summer Camp program hours
• Assisting with the check-in/check-out process (particularly on the first day)
• Facilitating weekly fire drills
• Managing participant health + personal information
• Managing registrations + tuition payments
• Working within a coaching role during camp
• Working within a supportive role during camp
• Assisting with any physical, emotional, or behavioral needs
• Assisting with conflict resolution or de-escalation methods
• Checking in with staff + supporting their development
• Researching, creating, organizing camp curriculum
• Organizing + purchasing short notice camp supplies as needed
• Managing camp communication platforms
• Working with inter-department collaboration as needed
• Assisting the Head of Youth Programs with any additional tasks as needed

Required Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated experience within a managerial role, ideally within an educational or youth-centered environment.
• Demonstrated experience working within a collaborative environment and comfortable leading creative discussions.
• Excited to contribute to an existing curriculum to best serve each unique set of participants.
• Demonstrated experience supporting a staff in completing daily expectations, problem solving unique situations, and able to serve as an example with participants.
• Demonstrated passion for the sport of climbing.
• Should feel comfortable working with youth athletes in small and large group settings as needed.
• Have experience leading play-ground style games or activities to youth ages 6-12.
• Should have an in-depth understanding of both bouldering and roped climbing, with the ability to express thoughts about climbing movement in easily understood terms.
• Self-motivating, energetic, and a team player
• Should enjoy sharing their love and knowledge of climbing.

Qualifications

• 1+ years experience mentoring or coaching youth.
• Minimum of 2 years of climbing experience
• Passion for coaching youth and climbing
• SafeSport Certified
• Completion of an Advanced First Aid course (within 2 years)
• Completed of a BLS Provider (CPR Pro) course (within 1 year)
• Mandated Reporter Training certificate
