Position: Summer Camp Behavioral Specialist

Report To: Lifetown Program Director

Job Overview:

Friendship Circle provides assistance and support to 3,000 individuals with special needs and their families by providing recreational, social, educational and vocational programming. By helping those in need, the Friendship Circle enriches its vast network of volunteers by enabling them to reap the rewards of selfless giving. Friendship Circle also provides support to individuals and families struggling with isolation, and other family-related crises.

Behavioral Specialists will assist camp counselors in promoting positive camper behaviors. This includes stepping into escalated behavioral situations, resolving camper conflict, using appropriate physical restraints, and proper de-escalation methods. The Behavioral Specialist must be an excellent role model, have a positive attitude, experience working with children and a willingness to be energetic, fun and silly!

Duties and Responsibilities

● Provide counselors with tools that can be implemented throughout the camp day to promote positive engagement and behaviors

● Keep detailed records of instances where behavioral intervention was implemented, as well as incident reports as needed

● Use behavioral intervention records to brainstorm and plan prevention techniques during after-camp check ins

● De-escalate behavioral situations using appropriate CPI interventions and other de-escalation methods

● Provide behavioral support, build rapport with campers, volunteers, and staff, and identify patterns of behavior that may need more attention or intervention.

● Support other behavioral staff as needed in order to keep all campers safe and engaged

● Providing support and engagement throughout camp day when behavioral interventions are not needed

● Support bathroom needs

● Reliable in attendance and punctuality

● Comply with all Friendship Circle policies and procedures

● Maintain professional, positive and courteous manner

● Attend all necessary meetings

● Ability to work as a team player

● Attend a multi-day training session covering Conflict Prevention Intervention strategies and other trainings

Qualifications

● 4 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities (Required)
● 2 years of experience working in a behavioral setting (Required)
● Experience in Friendship Circle Summer Camp or other similar camp program (Preferred)

● Either have or be in pursuit of a Bachelor’s in Education, Special Education, Social Work, Recreational Therapy, Child Psychology, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Speech
Pathology or similar. (Preferred)

● Must be willing to undergo a background check.

Schedule
Staff Training June 12- June 14

● Monday-Wednesday 10:00am-3:00pm

Day Camp June 19 - July 21 2023

● Monday-Friday: 9:00am-4:00pm

Overnight Camp July 31 - August 11 2023

● Monday-Friday
