Substance Abuse Counselor
Job description
Duties:
- Provides individual, family, and group counseling in relation to the treatment and recovery of substance abuse.
- Prepares consumers for re-entry into the family and community. Prepares and maintains up-to-date electronic case notes, consumer records and reports.
- Meets with the Program Coordinator and other case management staff in order to coordinate treatment objectives; refers consumers to community resources as appropriate.
- Conducts substance abuse therapeutic/rehabilitation counseling sessions.
- Utilizes evidence-based counseling techniques including but not limited to motivational interviewing, 12 Step counseling, cognitive therapy techniques; coordinates referrals for more intensive treatment if needed.
