Under general supervision of the Dean, Natural Science in collaboration with the Department Chair, the Student Services Professional will support the impacted nursing major, focusing on advising pre-nursing students, conducting transcript analysis to evaluate nursing applications, working with students to ensure compliance and clinical onboarding completeness, and conducting outreach and recruitment in the communities surrounding the Palm Desert and San Bernardino campuses.

Responsibilities

Compliance and Onboarding:
Closely collaborating with other staff members and Assistant Program Directors to provide support to students in all nursing programs regarding faculty/student compliance requirements and clinical onboarding. Provide instructions and advising to nursing students so they correctly complete and maintain currency of compliance requirements for entry into the program and throughout the duration of the program. Provide counsel to faculty/students if not compliant. Provide well-organized and timely onboarding documents to clinical agencies and faculty members. Keep up to date on changing hospital policies and recommend changes when necessary. Share this responsibility with assigned office staff.

Outreach and Recruitment:
Develop materials and present nursing program information to students, parents, community members, faculty and/or advisors and represent the Nursing Department during off-campus sessions, university events and community events. Travel to off-campus sites for recruitment events. Other duties and tasks assigned at the discretion of the Department Chair.

Advising:
Assist CSUSB Academic Success and Undergraduate Advising (ASUA) with pre-nursing advising. Assist nursing faculty advisors with nursing students.

Admissions:
Individually evaluate applications, including transcript analysis; determine which applicants meet minimum eligibility requirements; follow timelines and perform step-by-step process to ensure all applications are correctly sorted and reviewed and all supplemental material is considered. Provide comprehensive lists and follow-up for case-by-case decisions. Provide evidence for admission decisions when necessary; schedule individual appointments with students to review admission decisions when requested (time permitting); offer additional resources to students who may have been denied or missed application deadlines. Address student concerns if they disagree with department decisions. Monitor, export and evaluate data from nursing applications for program evaluation and improvement opportunities. Keep Community College partners/college advisors updated on changes to admission policies or procedures. Provide instruction and guidance to applicants on how to complete the online application. Act as spokesperson for questions from other schools, CSU system, CSUSB departments and students regarding general admission criteria.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Required Qualifications

Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.

Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Microsoft Office and OnBase.
Experience with transcript evaluation and admissions processes.

Compensation and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range: minimum $2,305 - maximum $2,500 monthly.

Classification Salary Range: minimum $4,610 - maximum $6,556 monthly.

Conditions of Employment

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Drivers License Check

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

Mandated Reporter

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
