JOB DESCRIPTION

The Student Services Manager is a 12 month, professional staff leadership position. The Director coordinates center involvement in orientation and registration, supervise placement testing and other related testing efforts, supervise personal counseling, supervise counselors, clerical staff and student assistants, participate in college planning process and budget, and staff development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Education, Student Affairs, Social Work or related field
  • Leadership experience in a counseling department or similar environment
  • Experience leading and directing a related staff and/or department
  • Experience working with a Student Information System or CRM
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with students in an educational setting

Preferred Experience:

  • 2-3 years of experience working with college students
  • Experience in conducting presentations/workshops and group counseling
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • At least 3 years of recent counseling experience in a mental health discipline/setting

Description of Duties:

  • Provide mental health counseling services to students with psychological, emotional/social, and academic concerns
  • Respond to student crises, including assessment, treatment, monitoring, and referrals; Maintain timely and accurate records and correspondence related to students served
  • Serve as essential part of the academic advising and retention team (ARC)
  • Process student course and program withdrawals and generate weekly/monthly reports
  • Develop and conduct outreach workshops designed to foster growth and promote mental health within the campus community
  • Coordinate retention programs with student services, including data collection, analysis, and reporting outcomes
  • Serve as an assigned Advising and Retention Coach to a designated student group and provide academic advising services to students through walk-ins and appointments
  • Collaborate and advise with the University of Mississippi on the institutions’ joint partnership programs- Two-Plus-Two and Path4 at DeSoto Campus or Redshirt Engineering program at Oxford Campus
  • Take lead roles in new student orientation, student convocation, and marketing Student Success Services to students, faculty, and staff
  • Assist with planning and implementing student engagement activities
  • Administer On-Campus ACT testing, academic placement testing, as needed
  • Provide advising on a rolling basis and during registration, orientation, and other campus events, as needed
  • Use office equipment and technology, including computers and related software, such as word processing, databases, and spreadsheets, and the ability to master new technologies.
  • Participate in professional development for continuous improvement
  • Establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness when dealing with staff, students, faculty, the public, and other professional contacts
  • Critically assess situations, maintain attention to detail, solve problems, work efficiently under stress and adjust work priorities to meet deadlines
  • Maintain or attain appropriate certification, licensure, or credentials; and serve on community, state, and professional committees, councils, and boards.
  • Maintain confidentiality, positive communication, accurate records, and an organized, safe working environment
  • Exhibit flexibility, willingness to learn, ability to change, and maintain current technology skills
  • Provide leadership and management for a staff of counseling and administrative professionals
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Campus Dean and/or College Administration

Knowledge Required for the Position:

  • Clinical knowledge and therapeutic techniques to facilitate student growth
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment/counseling in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives set by student and counselor
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication and problem-solving skills.
  • An understanding of and commitment to the College’s mission, vision, and values.
  • An understanding of the unique challenges faced by college students.
  • Ability to engage with students in face-to-face and virtual environments.
  • Continually maintain open communication with assigned students and cultivate professional relationships with College departments.
  • Help maintain a database system for monitoring and tracking program participants.
  • Competency with personal computers, mobile devices, and standard office software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and online meeting software.
  • Serve on College committees and task forces as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean and Administration.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to function productively and independently;

  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, with proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
