As a Student Counselor, you'll be a key member of our school teams, guiding students to achieve academic success no matter what challenges they may be facing. Seneca Counselors enrich the educational experience of students through highly individualized academic and behavioral plans. Counselors provide academic instructional and behavioral support to students in Seneca’s partner schools.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist teachers in providing academic individual and group instruction as appropriate
  • Provide direct behavioral intervention/modification for students that decreases engagement in disruptive, harmful or negative behaviors and increases engagement in positive replacement behaviors
  • Provide crisis management and intervention for students, including risk assessment, crisis counseling, creation of behavioral plans, and/or physical management through Crisis Prevention Institute’s (CPI) crisis prevention model
  • Lead small groups of students in activities to enhance their academic, behavioral, and interpersonal and social skills
  • Assist in monitoring students' progress toward their goals through formal documentation methods
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure that all students get the support they need to achieve academic and personal success at school
  • Coordinate and collaborate with parents, classroom teachers and other providers in order to transfer skills and build capacity
  • Implement broader classroom or school-wide interventions, including trauma-informed practices and aspects of the PBIS framework
  • Participate in individual and group supervision with Seneca to expand skills and receive ongoing coaching and support
Qualifications:
  • Experience/education requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree OR
    • Associate’s degree or equivalent + 1 year of applicable work experience OR
    • High school diploma/GED + 2 years of applicable work experience
    • Applicable experience includes any paid or unpaid experience working with youth or families, or working in the social services
    field
  • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) - Preferred!
  • Successful experience leading activities for youth
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid driver's license and insurance; insurable by Seneca's automobile policy
  • Clearance of TB test, fingerprints, and any other mandatory State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations
Schedule:
  • Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm
Benefits:
  • Starting at $21.00- $23.50 per hour, actual salary is dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role
  • Additional compensation provided upon passing bilingual language proficiency exam
