This is a student position responsible for assisting in the operations and activities of a department or a departmental project, program, or function (implementation of the RAICES grant from the U.S. Department of Education).
Job Duties
1. Assists with implementation of a professional development grant, to include development and dissemination of grant-related information in English and Spanish.
2. Assists with engaging and educating historically excluded community members in English and Spanish, and providing written and verbal translation services (e.g. residents living in rural areas, racial/ethnic minorities, and homebound residents).
3. Participates in bilingual trainings and community programs regarding cultural competence and increasing community engagement.
4. Utilizes research-based strategies and tactics to engage with community members and community partners in English and Spanish.
5. Assists in the development and dissemination of online content in English and Spanish.
6. Maintains confidentiality of program participants.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.
2. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files.
3. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
4. Ability to understand and follow instructions.
5. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
6. Ability to translate at the native/near native level in both English and Spanish.
Required Qualifications
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
Coursework in translation and interpretation is preferred.
Physical Demands Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.

Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
