The Sterile Processing Technician is accountable for all aspects of sterile processing including but not limited to preparation, packaging, sterilization, sterile storage and distribution of sterile medical devices.

Responsibilities of this position include:

• Demonstration of knowledge and documented competency in all aspects of decontamination, including sorting, disassembly/reassembly, manual and mechanical cleaning methods, microbicidal processes, equipment operation, standard/transmission-based precautions, and engineering and work-practice controls
• Demonstrated knowledge of and documented competency in the operation of the specific sterilization systems used within FHC.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and documented competencies in principles of sterilization and infectious disease transmission, infection prevention and all aspects of sterilization including decontamination, inspection and packaging of items to be sterilized, sterilizing procedures, equipment operations and safety measures.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and documented competence in worker safety as it relates to medical device processing and sterilization.
• Accurately monitors and documents the sterilization process according to industry standards to assure quality control at all times.
• Facilitates access to surgical supplies and sterile instrumentation.

Requirements of this position include:

• High School Diploma of GED
• One year health care experience
• Attention to detail; ability to consistently adhere to defined processes; ability to effectively communicate with staff and department stakeholders.
• BLS Certification
• Sterile Processing Technician certification within two years of employment
