Position Description

The Stationary Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, operating, and repairing machinery, equipment, and systems as required to maintain the functioning building(s).

Job Duties:
  • Performs all duties required to operate, repair, and maintain machinery, equipment, and systems in Harris County facilities within City, County, and State guidelines.
  • May be required to drive personal or county vehicles to various work sites.
  • Assumes supervisor duties when supervisor absent, trains less experienced co-workers and performs other duties as assigned.
  • May be required to be on-call after hours

Requirements

Education:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Licensure:
  • Universal EPA Certification is required.
  • Valid Texas driver's License.
Experience:
  • Five (5) years of hands-on in various aspects of building engineering operations and contract management relating to repair, maintenance, and operation of commercial and/or industrial facilities.
  • One (1) year of experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite, spreadsheets, and database applications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions in a thorough, neat, and timely manner and display mechanical aptitude.
  • Skilled in the care and use of hand tools and power equipment used in maintenance engineering trades.
  • Maintain courteous, helpful behavior at all times.
  • Self-starter possessing the interpersonal skills required to be a productive team player.
  • Ability to receive CJIS clearance and pass a security check and a drug test, as required. This position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
  • Required to obtain a license in an assigned area.

Preferences

Education:
  • Two (2) years of related technical school or courses.
Licensure:
  • 3rd grade or higher, Stationary Engineer License.
Experience:
  • One year of experience with computerized building automated system controls is preferred.

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Full-Time | 40-hours
Salary:
  • Depends on Qualifications
  • Based on 26 pay periods
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • May work outside in all kinds of weather; may work with no air conditioning or heating, will work on ladders and scaffolding; duties require standing, sitting, stretching, bending, stooping, climbing, frequent lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment, supplies, and tools and must have the ability to install rigging/lifting devices for heavier items safely.
  • Will work in cramped and awkward positions with all types of mechanical tools, electric and other equipment and may be exposed to dust, dirt, paint fumes, etc.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
