Job description
Position is responsible for Lied Center lighting systems operations and maintenance, advance event/show planning, and scheduling. Responsibilities include direct operation and supervision of lighting services serving as the light expert for the Lied Center and training staff in the proper set-up and operation of lighting system. Position oversees production aspects of events/show presentation (including Lied season and rental events) and technical needs for outreach activities at Lied and in other venues and work as stagehand for assigned events. Work takes place in many areas of performance venues including stages, auditorium, control booth and offices, loading and storage areas, scene shop, wardrobe room, lighting catwalks, stage rigging and flyloft and mechanical equipment rooms when assigned. The position ensures the proper training of production staff adherence to all applicable Health and Safety policies and practices. Travel with events and transport staff and equipment to events outside Lied Center, serving as driver when needed. Occasionally work at heights up to 80 feet. Work as production area specialist and fill in for stagehands when needed either at the Lied Center or at other venues used by the Lied Center.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or equivalent professional education/experience considered. Bachelor’s degree, plus three years’ professional theatrical production experience required; extensive professional production experience considered in lieu of degree. Additionally, experience should include four years’ experience in maintenance, operation and supervision of the operation of large theatrical lighting systems, including intelligent light design/operation; four years’ experience designing lights in large theatrical venues; and experience with “road house” operations and management. Must have experience training staff in the operation of lighting systems and basic design practices. Knowledge of technical aspects of large multi-use performance venues and applicable safety regulations essential. High level computer skills necessary. Proficient in use of Lightwright (version 4 or 5), Vectorworks drafting software and AutoCAD and/or other similar lighting design programs. Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer five years’ theatrical production experience and five years’ lighting design in a similar professional venue and programming; knowledge and experience working with Broadway and dramatic theatre, dance, classical/pop music and opera; experience working with/supervising IATSE stage crew; excellent time and labor management skills; and positive attitude. Experience with more than one area of production management: rigging, audio, and/or carpentry with ability to work across departments desirable. Candidates are encouraged to share a portfolio of their lighting design work and lighting experience.

Posted Salary $24.04/ hr. minimum
