University Counseling Service at the University of Iowa is seeking a Temporary Part Time Embedded Staff Therapist to provide psychological services to students within the UI College of Dentistry to assist them in attaining their educational, interpersonal, and academic goals. Position duties include individual assessment and counseling; group counseling; daytime and after hours psychoeducational and outreach programming to students, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents/families; consultation to residence hall staff; and supervision and training to graduate students in the mental health professions.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social work with a clinical focus from a CSWE-Accredited program, Master’s degree in Counseling from a CACREP-Accredited program, or Doctoral degree in either Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-Accredited program.
  • Psychologist: Possession of a valid State of Iowa License as a psychologist within 3 months of hire. Mental Health Counselor or Social Worker: Possession of a valid State of Iowa License as an LMSW or tLMHC by date of hire.
  • Extensive knowledge of evidence and theory based mental health counseling in assessment, crisis, individual, case management, and group.
  • Extensive ability to assess, manage, and ensure high quality mental health counseling, trauma, and crisis management.
  • Expert proficiency in the application of communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Extensive proficiency in collaborating and interacting with individuals and groups while valuing the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Specifically, proficiency working with students who are Mandarin and/or Spanish speaking; Native America; Asian American; Black/African American; and/or Latinx, as well as immigrants and international students. And proficiency working with students who identify as LGBTQ+ and integrating trans-inclusive care.
  • Working proficiency with office and tele-mental health support tools and electronic medical records software (e.g., word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets, electronic health records); preferably Microsoft Office, and Zoom.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid state of Iowa license as a psychologist, LISW, or LMHC by date of hire.
  • Relevant post-degree clinical work experience (typically 1-3 years.)
  • Working proficiency in suicide prevention outreach and programming.
  • Experience and interest in providing Academic support counseling and/or working with neurodivergent individuals.
  • Working proficiency in CBT, MBSR, ACT, and Relational Cultural theories.
  • Interest and/or experience in counseling center research including data analysis. Proficiency in Qualtrics or other statistical software.
  • Working proficiency and interest in providing brief, psychoeducational group interventions.
  • Working proficiency with clinical assessment.
  • Previous experience in working with graduate or professional students or those enrolled in health science programs.
  • Familiarity with and interest in the use of social media outreach applications.
