The SIUE Head Start/Early Head Start program is seeking qualified candidates to fill a part-time Staff Nurse position. The Staff Nurse with Head Start/Early Head Start assists with implementation of the day-to-day operations of the health program service area goals and supports compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and other state/local health regulations. The SIUE Head Start/Early Head Start program serves more than 860 families and children birth through age five, including children with special needs, throughout St. Clair County and consists of a team of individuals dedicated to making real change that leads to the success of children, families and communities. The program is housed in nine early childhood centers, eight managed directly by SIUE staff and two collaboration sites. SIUE’s Head Start program includes a rigorous school readiness program and provides comprehensive services, such as health/dental screenings and family engagement and support activities.

The Staff Nurse will provide proper health care of infants and toddlers training to all Head Start child care staff, as well as ensure all women participating in the Expectant Families program option receive pre-natal visits as well as post-partum home visits within two weeks of delivery. This position is responsible for reviewing, monitoring and performing health screenings for all children enrolled in Early Head Start and Head Start programs. The selected candidate will perform health screenings, prepare treatment plans, and conduct training sessions with staff on how to provide prescribed treatment as well as work with staff and families to ensure completion of all follow-up and treatment plans.

Additionally, the Staff Nurse will collaborate with parents to promote children's health and well-being by providing medical, oral, nutrition education support services that are understandable to all individuals within the program, including individuals with low health literacy. Other related duties within the professional scope of the position may be assigned based on the programs needs and goals.

This is a part-time position based out of the East St. Louis Center. Approximate total work week hours for this role will be 20 (54%). Hours are typically Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Adjusted days and hours may be needed based on program events and needs.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

1. Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
2. One year of nursing experience comparable to that gained as a Staff Nurse I. **
