Reporting to the Director of Media Relations (Pitching), the responsibilities of the Sr. Media Relations Rep. include but are not limited to, working with teams across campus to promote UCLA's success in core endeavors identified by campus leadership and StratComm by pitching stories to the media and writing content for UCLA-owned news channels; promoting faculty research that is published in leading peer-reviewed journals in an effort to find, write and place UCLA stories in mainstream media that exemplify the university's leadership in research for societal impact; cultivating and maintaining effective working relationships with writers, editors and producers in online, broadcast and print media; tracking data and metrics that captures the reach and impact of pitches and content created.

These functions will be carried out in close coordination and partnership with various units within UCLA Strategic Communications, ensuring continuity and constant communication.

Duties are performed onsite during normal office working hours with the possibility of a FlexWork schedule. Working hours may include weekends, evenings and holidays, and may require light travel.

Required/Preferred

1. Outstanding written and oral communications skills.

2. Solid professional judgment.

3. Demonstrated record of successful national, regional and local media relations planning, implementation and story placements.

4. Minimum of 10 years full-time professional experience in news media or public relations, preferably in work related to higher education.

5. Demonstrated reporting and writing skills and ability to identify story placement opportunities and think strategically about communications.

6. Demonstrated understanding of media analytics and metrics to identify strategies for sustained, repeatable placement success.

7. Ability to work cooperatively with other individuals and departments, including senior campus leadership, faculty, media relations and communications colleagues, and UC Office of the President staff.

8. Demonstrated ability to anticipate public events that can be used to advance institutional objectives.

9. Demonstrated ability to successfully coordinate multiple ongoing tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.

10. Demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines and respond effectively to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

11. Demonstrated experience with web and/or television technology.

12. Demonstrated record of implementing new technologies and new communication tools.

13. Thorough knowledge and understanding of current events, issues and developments in higher education.

17. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education preferred.
