Role Expectations
Working in Operations Order Management reporting to the SVP of Customer Fulfillment Services, the Sr. Director will be responsible for managing all operational and financial aspects of the order management function. This role will represent HMH’s Customer & Sales in the development and execution of the fulfillment plans to deliver perfect order attainment focused on speed, accuracy, optimized cost, and customer experience. This role will be the bridge between Order to Cash and Forecast to Fulfill business processes to ensure customer orders at all network locations can be fulfilled so that teachers and students have the products they need to start each new school year. This includes the following primary duties:
  • As the owner of consignment partner relationships, outline expected outcomes with the depositories that consign then sell HMH products to districts and schools to plan for the upcoming Back to School. As the Back to School (BTS) progresses, maintain communication with the Depositories to ensure optimal inventory levels per location to avoid backorders and overstock, to track progress against plan, mitigate potential risk, and represent the Customer & Sales should problems arise. Should misses against plan occur, baseline the problem to be solved then drive supporting Operations teams to achieve expected outcomes so that the offerings sold have timely fulfillment.
  • For customer orders being fulfilled directly from HMH, work with the Order Management team to analyze the key barriers to fulfillment and action with Operations and HMH teams to meet the customer expectations for delivery at the right level of cost.
  • Provide visibility to progress to Back to School (BTS) plans through ongoing communication to all levels with Operations, as appropriate, including potential risk and mitigation plans and leveraging data to drive accuracy and efficiency in order management processes.
  • Ensure financial integrity and completeness for all order fulfillment including working in partnership with the Transportation team on the outbound costs and logistics.
  • Work with Operations teams to ensure digital automation for processes.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in an omni-channel order management experience that is highly seasonal and manages fulfillment through internal networks and third party distributors in direct and consignment models.
  • Experience with fulfillment of physical products and non-physical product including digital and professional development services
  • Bachelor’s Degree, in lieu of a degree a minimum of 20 years of experience in an omni-channel order management experience that is highly seasonal and manages fulfillment through internal networks and third party distributors in direct and consignment models.
  • Experience with fulfillment of physical products and non-physical product including digital and professional development services
  • Proficient in SAP
  • Experience with building teams and identifying & hiring supply chain talent of the future
  • Experience managing teams through cyclical processes
  • Process improvement and digital automation experience
Preferred but not necessary:
  • Supply Chain professional certification
  • Prior role in order management function

Salary Range $135,000 - $142,000
