Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Database applications developer, position serves as a SQL developer during the developmental and production cycles for the University's Guided Pathway applications, as well as other STAR software.
  • Design, development, and testing with Microsoft SQL Server, including: Creating well performing queries, stored procedures and triggers.
  • Works with lead developers to monitor, tune, trouble-shoot, and enhance system and database performance.
  • Design and develop database schemas for existing University STAR Guided Pathways systems and/or new STAR systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • As typically acquired/evidenced by pertinent baccalaureate educational degree and 0 year of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for database structures and coding; possession of the following competencies in technical knowledge, critical thinking skills, communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of and demonstrated ability in MS SQL Server or Database systems such as MySQL, Oracle and/or DB2.
  • Working knowledge of and demonstrated ability in coding TSQL for writing stored procedures, triggers, ad Hoc reports.
  • Hands-on experience with transforming business requirements into data processes.
  • Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Functional knowledge of Databases and Structured Query Language (SQL) as demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, methodology and terminology.
  • Working knowledge of database performance tuning and trouble-shooting.
  • Working knowledge of STAR software: including, but not limited to Balance, Academic Logic, and STAR GPS.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve routine problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of MS SQL server 2008 R2 (SP2), MS SQL server Management, SQL server agent, Linked servers.
  • Working knowledge of a source control system such as CVS or Subversion.
