The Ivymount School is seeking a collaborative Speech-Language Pathologist to provide consultative speech and language services to classroom and programs.

Summary: Responsible for providing staff training, consultation and collaborative coaching regarding speech and language intervention for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the areas of speech and articulation, vocal volume, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), receptive language, expressive language, and pragmatics. Daily collaboration on a multidisciplinary team including Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Special Education Teachers, OT, other SLPs, and PT.

Responsibilities

The speech-language pathologist in the Endeavors School Program consults with BCBAs, teachers and instructors on speech and language programming for individual students, classrooms, and at the program- wide level. This position has the potential to work with both early childhood as well as school aged students. Consultation is provided through:

  • Regular meetings with teachers
  • Periodic observations of individual students
  • Skill probes with individual students
  • Administration of assessments as needed for programming and Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) development
  • Input on development of speech and language programming
  • Staff trainings on specific speech and language programs
  • Review of progress data on speech and language programs
  • Development of Individualized Education Plan recommendations in the areas of speech, language, and social skills
  • Initial and ongoing trainings for all staff in the areas of speech and language and other trainings as assigned by supervisor or as deemed necessary by evaluation of instructors’ skill levels
  • Designing and running classroom groups related to speech and language
  • Consultation may also involve the provision of some direct service in combination with consultation

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in the field of Speech-Language Pathology
  • Maryland State licensure in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) is preferred but Clinical Fellowship Year (CYF) candidates will be considered
  • Experience delivering school-based speech-language therapy services
  • Clinical experience with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other related disorders
  • Experience using evidence-based practice to make decisions regarding treatment
  • Working knowledge of research related to Autism Spectrum Disorder and other related disorders
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Cooperative participation within an interdisciplinary team
  • Computer skills related to common office tasks such as email, conducting internet searches, and using MSOffice (e.g., MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) assessment and treatment, including a variety of modalities and speech-generating applications
  • Understanding of behavioral principles and instructional strategies for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other related disorders preferred
  • Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis preferred
