Employment Type: This is a full-time, in-person, school-based position beginning in July 2023 for the 2023-2024 school year.

Salary: The salary range for this role is $53,019-$79,000, and placement is determined based on years of qualifying professional experience and education level.

About the Role:
Valor Collegiate Academies is seeking a full-time Speech Language Pathologist who will serve students at our middle schools or high school, as well as students within Valor's 5-12 life skill programs (Harbor and Soar). The Speech Language Pathologist will be responsible for all initial evaluations and reevaluations at both middle schools and the high school. Additionally, they will assist with appropriate program planning, service hours, and IEP needs in conjunction with the Student Supports Team.

The job of Speech Language Pathologist was established for the purposes of developing strategies and interventions to assist students in succeeding; measuring and interpreting the results of evaluations, therapy, IEP development, and teacher consultation, as well as interpreting and applying state and federal codes.

Core Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure evaluations, treatment plans and service delivery are aligned with school, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Deliver speech therapy services both in individual and group setting to meet student needs on IEP.
  • Assess students' functional capabilities and home and/or classroom environment for the purpose of determining student's functional level and developing recommendations and/or placement.
  • Assist other staff for the purpose of developing and applying student monitoring systems and designing academic interventions.
  • Compile information from a variety of sources (e.g. administrators, teachers, nurse, parents, mental health agencies, other professionals, etc.) for the purpose of producing a comprehensive screening/ evaluation report in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Consult with teachers, parents, and/or other outside personnel or professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services and/or making recommendations.
  • Consult with students, parents and guardians for the purpose of making work accessible for all students.
  • Help students for the purpose of creating smooth transitions to and from school and community learning environments, such as residential treatment centers or ALC.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Promote school policies and practices for the purpose of ensuring the safety of all students by reducing school violence, bullying and harassment.
  • Research resources and methods (e.g. intervention, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals
  • Participate in weekly faculty Circles on Wednesdays after school
  • Own an arrival duty, recess or lunch duty, transition, and/or dismissal duty daily

Critical Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience as a Speech Language Pathologist preferred
  • Must have an active TN license in Speech Language Pathology (we are unable to consider Clinical Fellows for this role)
  • Master's degree or higher
  • Deep understanding of current best practices in Speech Language Pathology
  • A demonstrated track record of meeting high expectations and accomplishing goals even in the face of obstacles
  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines, with the ability to efficiently and effectively complete tasks
  • A history of working well as part of a small team, with a strong “whatever it takes” orientation and self-starter mentality
