Three Rivers Diagnostics is seeking a reliable, experienced, and upbeat Part Time Specimen Collector/Phlebotomist to perform duties in Matawan NJ.

Primary Purpose

A Specimen Collector/Phlebotomist is responsible for using their medical knowledge to take blood, urine, Swabs and COVID samples from patients. Their duties include preparing the testing room with the proper tools, walking patients through the process when inserting needles and retrieving samples, data entry into lab information system, and labeling samples for further analysis in medical laboratories.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Perform specimen collections, phlebotomy and associated tasks as per applicable SOPs.

· Takes initiative to demonstrate the ability to process donors in a timely manner

· Prepare patients before drawing blood by explaining blood draw procedures and answering any questions about the process

· Calmly assist nervous or frightened patients during blood draws

· Gather medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags and test tubes

· Accurately update patient information in the organization’s database

· Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information and collect payments when required, following corporate policies.

· Research test/client information and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders by utilizing lab technology systems, client contact, and approved tools.

· Collect specimens according to established procedures. This includes, but not limited to drug screens, biometric screening and insurance exams.

· Verifying patient information and labeling blood samples properly

· Following all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain sanitary work areas

· Process specimens including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing and preparing for transport as required by test order.

· Perform all non-patient facing duties, including inventory, stock supplies, sanitizing, filing, answering phones and utilizing email as appropriate.

· Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures.

· Assist with compilation and submission of statistics and data when required.

· Maintain all appropriate specimen collecting & phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality.

· Ability to work without direct supervision in a team environment.

· Ability to positively communicate effectively with patients, staff, and management.

Experience

· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Phlebotomy certification Required.

· Minimum one year experience in specimen collecting & phlebotomy preferably working in a lab environment.

· Must have demonstrated excellent customer service, technical and laboratory skills.

· Ability to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies and in accordance with safety guidelines.

· Must have good attendance and reliable transportation.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
