JOB LOCATION: YMCA-Aurora, Arvada and University Hills

HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE: Monday - Thursday 8:00am-3:30pm

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Site Director, the Specialty Program Lead is responsible for assisting the delivery of the program. This includes behavior management and safety of the program participants. The Specialty Program Lead will deliver professional customer service and relationship building skills to create a welcoming environment at the YMCA. The incumbent will also exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA. The Specialty Program Lead is responsible for adhering to policies and procedures of the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver.

The Specialty Program Lead will: administer attendance and other record keeping responsibilities including distribution of information to work with parents and school personnel and/or branch executives; assist with marketing the program; plan curriculum for daily activities, in-service days and holidays; communicate accounts receivable information to parents and ensure that the policy of prepayment for program is adhered to; andadminister other responsibilities delegated by the Site Directorand ensure that the programs meet The Colorado Department of Human Services requirements and YMCA standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implement a risk management program to ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all times.
  • Ensure that all supplies and equipment are well maintained.
  • Implement the YMCA Character Development Program into the daily program.
  • Assist the Program Director/Coordinator/Site Director with providing effective communication to parents and developing a working relationship with parents.
  • Ensure on-going cleanliness of all facilities used by the program. Take initiative to clean up/repair areas as needed.
  • Assist staff with appropriate interactions with children, including discipline procedures.
  • Act responsibly and be a positive role model for staff, parents and children.
  • Be knowledgeable and supportive of the YMCA annual Strong Kids Campaign.
  • Follow and enforce all YMCA procedures and policies, including: personnel guidelines, safety guidelines, facility access procedures and program policies. Carry out emergency plans as necessary.
  • Assume any additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Attend all trainings, staff meetings, in-services without exception.
  • Must follow dress code and hold staff accountable to dress code at all times which includes staff shirts, name badge and closed-toes shoes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be at least 18 years of age or older.

2. High School Diploma or equivalent.

3. A minimum of 3 months (460 hours) experience working with children under 13 years of age required. Experience in a youth centered educational learning environment preferred. Candidates must provide letters verifying experience with youth prior to being hired.

4. Exceptional group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

5. Experience in creating interactive and educational/artistic activities, youth development, academic enrichment and arts.

6. Must possess oral, auditory and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.

7. Must be capable of implementing the daily administrative, program related, and supervisory responsibilities of an after-school site.

8. Flexibility, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle, feel objects, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.
  • The employee must regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
  • The vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, peripheral and the ability to focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions, and outdoor weather conditions which will include exposure to U.V. sun rays.
  • The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to high.

INTERPERSONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform and provide excellent customer service skills by exceeding member expectations! Consistently greet every person who enters the YMCA or childcare facility (by name, if known) and recognize all members and participants when they leave.
  • Engage in active listening with members and program participants in order to build relationships, understand individuals goals and interests, and take the initiative to ensure the member has a positive experience.
  • Provide accurate information about membership and programs.
  • Help prospects and members experience the YMCA by introducing them to other staff and members. By creating these interactions, we will demonstrate that the YMCA is a place where we take the time to connect, communicate and engage in respectful and friendly relationships.
