POSITION: Social Worker Senior

SALARY: $24.30 - 29.60/hour DOE

REPORTS TO: Social Services Program Manager

LOCATION: Nespelem, WA

Basic Functions: The Social Worker Serves as a Tribal Professional expert on matters relating to several social services areas, with an emphasis on various facets of social work pertaining to Indian Children, the elderly, and families. Work with the Office of Special Trust (OST) to facilitate payments for supervised account holders. Provides case management services for the Social Services Program, including, but not limited to, assessing community social services, financial management, welfare finance services, referrals for medical/psychological services, housing needs, educational, job training, etc. ensuring and striving to maintain clientele independence and quality of life in as less a restrictive manner as possible. Provides backup management decision making with Social Services Program.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Training:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, or a related field, which includes two (2) years social work experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the Behavioral Sciences, or related field and five (5) years of social work experience working with elderly and/or disabled individuals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires the skill to define empathy, enabling, compassion, acceptance, ‘tough love’, Lateral violence, and teamwork concepts and issues relative to the “helping information”, understand addictive processes and effects upon self, families, communities and organizations.
  • Must be intimately familiar with recovery from addictions by working a healing process for self for a minimum of five years.
  • Requires case management and protective services methods, techniques, and practices pertaining to elderly and disabled populations.
  • Requires knowledge of theories of human behavior and group dynamics.
  • Requires knowledge of methods and techniques used to conduct interviews and investigations.
  • Requires methods and techniques used a appropriately intervene during routine or crisis situations involving victims of abuse.
  • Requires knowledge of safety/risk assessment techniques.
  • Requires knowledge of needs and problems of elders/disabled, dependents, and families from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Requires knowledge of community resources, community organizations, and health care systems.
  • Requires knowledge of Tribal, State, and Federal policies, procedures, and guidelines, requires knowledge of reporting requirements and court procedures related to the elderly and dependent social services.
  • Requires knowledge of laws, codes, rules, and regulations of governing agencies.
  • Requires excellent writing skills and be highly familiar with case management record keeping and documentations.
  • Requires ability to practice counselor interview techniques and skills.
  • Requires ability to safeguarding of confidential information and ramifications for breaching confidence.
  • Requires ability to attend various training sessions as required by supervisor.
  • Requires ability to communicate effectively in writing to prepare reports, case summaries, and correspondence in an understandable, clear and concise manner.
  • Requires ability to effectively assess diagnoses and apply intervention techniques when dealing with the elderly and family related problems.
  • Requires ability to establish workload priorities to manage caseloads in an efficient, organized and timely manner.
  • Requires ability to apply professional social work methods to various situations.
  • Requires ability to analyze a variety, use sound and logical reasoning, and exercise the proper authority when appropriate.
  • Requires ability to assess the clients’ immediate needs and ensure clients’ receipt of needed services through personal service or making referral.
  • Requires the skill sets to perform the responsibilities of the position including delivery of therapeutic, advisory, and counseling services.
  • Requires ability to learn, interpret, and apply District, State, and Federal requirements and objectives for academic achievement.
  • Requires ability to explore alternative educational opportunities with students and families, identify crisis situations and provide intervention.
  • Requires the ability to conduct socio-environmental analysis and prepare social and family histories.
  • Must be able to design and develop behavioral and instructional objectives for clients.
  • Requires the ability to work cooperatively with teachers, and pupil personnel services providers, families and agencies.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize work and manage time effectively.
  • Must be able to communicate in a professional manner, in both formal and informal settings with students, fellow teachers, staff and parents.
  • Must be able to oversee the activities of instructional support staff.
  • Requires ability to operate a computer and work with various computer software.
  • Requires ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • The incumbent performs work of a sedentary to moderately active nature.
  • Requires sufficient ambulatory ability to walk to project locations, to stand for extended periods of time, and to bend and stoop for limited periods of time.
  • Requires sufficient arm-hand-eye coordination to operate a computer keyboard and pointing devises at a proficient level.
  • Requires sufficient visual acuity to read technical documents and instructions.
  • Requires the ability to lift, push, and pull objects of medium weight (less than 50 lbs.) on an occasional basis.
  • Requires the ability to grasp, reach, push, and pull and move light weight work materials and supplies, requires sufficient arm hand finger dexterity to use a personal computer keyboard, multimedia, and other office equipment, requires sufficient hearing and speaking skills to project voice and communicate with staff, students, parents, and other practitioners in small group settings and in one-on-one conversations.
  • Requires visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens, observe students perform assignments, and observe moving objects and events.

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
