Social Media Specialist

Alliance Defending Freedom is looking for a highly creative Social Media Specialist to join us in our Lansdowne, VA or Washington D.C. offices. As the Social Media Specialist, you are a vital member of the ADF Social Media team and report to the Social Media Manager of Media and Advocacy Communications. In this role, you will use your talents to inspire cultural engagement on the most consequential issues of the day, activate a community of over 2 million followers on our channels to build a community of passionate, engaged advocates around a shared mission.

ADF is looking for a candidate with an innovative spirit and an attuned awareness for social trends and best practices that will generate growth and channel engagement. The Social Media Specialist will also possess high-level tact in daily platform management, community management and performance analysis of channel activity.

Your Essential Responsibilities:

In this position, you will:

• Advocate for ADF’s issues and initiatives via our social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and (on occasion) YouTube).
• Implement well-researched insights and best practices to maximize future channel growth and engagement, while providing learning opportunities for future social campaign strategies.
• Help to manage the day-to-day content publishing schedule, social listening and reporting on owned social channels.
• Assist with drafting copy, posts, and other organic means of communication on the channels.
• Monitor ADF’s various social media channels to assist in rapid response to ongoing, relevant news.
• Collaborate with the Social Media Manager on aligning organic and paid social advertising opportunities with strategic goals for the social media program.
• Collaborate with the social media team on editorial concepts that speak to ADF areas of focus, maximizing ADF thought leadership with opportunities that will shape and influence narratives.
• Cater to and manage ADF’s social media community, responding promptly, tactfully, accurately, and on-message within our community and among influencers and the opposition.

Skills you need to succeed:

Basic Qualifications/Experience:

• 1-3 years of working experience in social media with intuitive knowledge and command over major social media platforms.
• Native understanding and use of Instagram, YouTube – notably Facebook and Twitter.
• A creative idea-generator and avid consumer of media, news, and current events.
• Creative editorial capabilities with excellent written and oral communication skills.
• A problem-solving innovator who can efficiently analyze, identify, and summarize data to inspire content creation and reporting for leadership and team members.
• A keen attention for detail with a proven track record to manage projects and timelines tactfully.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

• BA/BS degree in communications or equivalent work experience and/or experience working in politics, social media, legal advocacy.
• Experience in task management and content publishing platforms - Airtable, Sprout Social
• An ability to draft professional, timely, accurate, and compelling short-form content, transforming complex or technical issues into compelling, snackable messages.
• An effective communicator who can express mission values to social media communities.
• BONUS: ability to identify clean visual/graphic design and utilize basic video editing skills.
