Summary:
The Skilled Laborer performs general labor duties including a designated spotter for trucks and equipment on an asphalt paving lay down crew. He/she also performs various unskilled tasks which are associated with asphalt paving and grading operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Handle construction materials,
• Set up and tears down work sites,
• Sweep and clean roads,
• Work with tools as trained (Lute & MOT),
• Focus on safety of self and co-workers at all times,
• Placement of hot mix asphalt through the use of a shovel, lute or other related tools,
• Shovel asphaltic materials and assisting with maintenance of asphalt finishing machine to include adding or removing screed extensions,
• Follow instruction of Asphalt Equipment Operator and Asphalt Foreman,
• Work in varying weather conditions and work environments including dusty, wet, loud noises. etc.,
• Keep company vehicle, property and equipment clean and orderly, informing management of any safety concerns,
• May be exposed to vehicular traffic,
• Comply with all FMCC policies, procedures and safety requirements, and
• Handle related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• Must have 2 years or more years of experience in Heavy Construction,

• Valid driver’s license preferred,
• High school diploma or GED desired,
• Must have strong verbal and written communication skills,
• Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time,
• Must have the ability to stand and walk with the coordination between their hands, eyes and feet to guide equipment in situations where precision is required,
• Mechanical aptitude is desirable,
• Must have the ability to work both independently and in a team environment,
• Must have fast reflexes, good depth perception and the ability to set controls quickly, precisely and repeatedly,
• Flexible availability to include overtime, possible weekends and may require periods of on-call time,
• Highly recommended be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which includes all eligible booster shots, except when vaccination is not medically advised or violates your sincerely held religious beliefs in violation of EEO laws, and
• Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug & alcohol screening.
