Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an IMMEDIATE opening for a Site Supervisor at our Joliet Hydrogen Facility.

This site consists of a 18MM SCFD hydrogen plant (SMR & Membrane) supplying hydrogen and steam to a major refinery. This relatively new facility was built and commissioned in 2006 and is located within the refinery.

Our Site Supervisor is directly responsible for all phases of operation for the on-site hydrogen. This role requires an understanding of all aspects of sites responsibilities (safety, plant operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and customer communications) with a specific focus on leadership, operating skills, project management and execution.

This position works with the Small H2 Manager and will provide direct leadership of the Joliet operations team which consists of 5 operation technicians and 1 maintenance technician.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Commitment to safety, including Basic Safety Process (BSP) compliance, process safety management, and implementation of EHS policies.
  • Promotion and support of customer relations through effective communication.
  • Completion of all administrative responsibilities for the site.
  • Good working knowledge of the maintenance associated with industrial plant equipment such as pressure systems, rotating machinery, instrumentation, analytical and electrical systems.
  • MS package such as Word and Excel are crucial. A working knowledge of SAP will be an advantage
  • Knowledge, experience and initiative to function in a key role during major planned maintenance shutdowns.
  • Involvement in a variety of other tasks including the coordination and execution of reliability and productivity improvement projects.
  • Track PM compliance and drive the team to meet compliance goals of 100%
  • Experience in estimating projected spend/ cost estimates for forecasting purposes.
  • Solving plant process or mechanical problems, coordinating maintenance activities, driving plant efficiency and plant projects.
  • Identifying maintenance concerns, developing, and implementing corrective/preventive measures while working within planned maintenance budgets.
  • Provide occasional back-up support for On-Site plants in region which may require travel.

Candidates will be evaluated on the following:

  • A track record of success in EH&S with focus on the ability to administer EHS policy compliance.
  • A self-starter with validated leadership abilities. Self-led and highly motivated to plan and ensure the execution of all tasks required by our safety, environmental and engineering standards.
  • Hydrogen experience is a plus but not a specific requirement as training will be provided for the successful candidate.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Capacity to work independently with equal ability to effectively lead a team.
  • Demonstrated computer skills.

Candidates for this position will be evaluated based on the following:
  • A commitment to safety and strong communications skills are a must.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent with 4 to 8 years related experience with process plant operation, maintenance, and/or engineering is preferred.
  • An engineering educational background would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and validated interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills.
