Role Summary/Purpose:

Synchrony Financial technology team is looking for a strong leader who has great experience and clear understanding of matured Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) function ensuring reliability and performance of organization’s systems and applications.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Technology organization as SVP, Technology responsible for Site Reliability Engineering function. As a leader you will be responsible for maturing the operations function delivering “always on” platforms while enabling accelerated agile product delivery supporting our partners and customers. As a trusted technology partner, you will drive the outcomes and help provide transparency on the execution.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop roadmaps, plans and metrics that communicate the operational excellence vision/progress. Sets a high bar for results through continuous learning and high degree of automation reducing manual operations across all layers.

  • Partner with Development and Operational teams to ensure products are designed with reliability and performance in mind, promoting Operational Excellence.

  • Responsible for financial planning/allocation and staffing decisions with the focus on reduction of operational expense through early detection automation.

  • Promote the vision and drive organizational transformation through establishing/maintaining relationships with key stakeholders across the organization, including engineering, operations, security, and management.

  • Collaborate across the firm to maintain alignment on Operational Excellence vision, strategy, and performance to goals, approaching strategy with an entrepreneurial mindset, leveraging critical thinking.

  • Create and promote the culture of continuous learning, implementing changes, preventing recurrence, and enabling actions for early detection and self-healing.

  • Coach, mentor and lead a high performing team with direct and indirect responsibility to deliver on the objectives.


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in technology leadership roles that span across product development, and operational support leadership roles preferably within a financial service.

  • 5+ years of developing, cultivating, and leading strong, high-performing teams.

  • 5+ years in Operation support role focusing on Reliability transformation.

  • Ability to create a strategy/plan that articulates and incorporates compelling Operational Excellence vision.

  • Expert communication skills, both written and oral, with ability to create/present executive presentations and serve as one of the recognized subject matter experts on the team.

  • Demonstrate business acumen and the ability to interact with senior leaders, including developing, presenting, and gaining approval on any business cases and funding requests.

  • Flexibility and organizational change management experience.

  • The ability to work in a cross-functional team and drive outcomes without having direct authority.

  • Actively anticipates, identifies, and manages risks within position scope and at the company.

  • Expert consensus-builder who drives change across initiatives within and outside direct accountability and evaluates solutions to the most complex business challenges.

  • Strong operational experience on large complex environments.

  • Strategic leader who anticipates the future, inspires the team to deliver reliable platforms that enable delightful experiences at scale and within established timelines/budget

  • Ability to synthesize complex solutions into easily implementable solutions paving the way for incremental delivery.

  • Data driven leader who establishes OKRs, KPIs and inspires the delivery of customer centric solutions.

  • Excellent people leader who leads by example and has demonstrated experience building highly effective teams

Grade/Level: 15

The salary range for this position is 200,000.00 - 330,000.00 USD Annual

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA and Metro NY and some positions are bonus eligible.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 24 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
