SUMMARY: Leads team members in daily operations to ensure smooth workflow, quality production, and timely delivery. Monitors performance of team members and provides guidance to improve performance. Responsible for handling the day to day employee issues including starting the shift, calling maintenance, or HR as needed, and any emergency that may arise.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Responsible for the plant safety and security while on site
  • Ensures shift meets daily objectives in terms of safety, on-time delivery of job orders, accurate employee documentation of work completed, quality, and physical inventory.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and is responsible for discipline of departmental associates.
  • Ensures all parts are accounted for and properly processed before moving job orders to the next department.
  • Establishes priorities, availability or capability of workers, parts, material, machines, and equipment.
  • Follows block schedule to ensure completion of job orders in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains inventory of materials and parts needed to complete production.
  • Establishes continuous improvement culture including 5S organization and visual management systems.
  • Can operate equipment in a steel fabrication environment in a safe and reasonable manner.
  • Understands proper set-up or all equipment in the department.
  • Ensures that all department employees have necessary materials, parts, and tools to work.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises employees in the plant and carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's procedures. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; addressing complaints and resolving problems, involved in the hiring process for the department, and communication with other Operations Team Leaders.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school education or equivalent required and 3 to 5 years’ experience in manufacturing environment.
Ability to read blueprints and understand geometric tolerances.
Lean Manufacturing experience preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Person will have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Person must have the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Person will need the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Good basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee may be required to lift items weighing up to 100 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
