Overview:
NV5 (NASDAQ: NVEE) is a provider of professional and technical engineering and consulting solutions to public and private sector clients in the infrastructure, energy, construction, program management and environmental markets. NV5 is an ENR Top 500 firm; we offer a full range of professional services in offices throughout the U.S. As engineers, architects, construction/program managers, environmental professionals and beyond, we play a significant role in shaping our communities through the services we provide.

NV5's Philadelphia office includes a diverse and talented team of civil engineers, landscape architects, urban designers, and planners. We have a unique studio approach that allows for collaborative working between our engineering, planning, and landscape disciplines. Our employees are passionate about improving the quality of life for communities through planning and design. Only qualified candidates with a strong interest and enthusiasm for design within the public realm and other transformative private development projects will be considered.

Our Philadelphia office is conveniently located in Center City Philadelphia, just blocks away from City Hall and all SEPTA and PATCO rail lines. Our employees are active volunteers in our communities and we are proud to be selected as a “Bike-Phriendly" business by the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. Many of our staff walk or bike to work, and our office has been designed to accommodate these modes of commuting.

Our Philadelphia office is growing. This position will be a unique opportunity to join a growing, collaborative, and multi-disciplinary team. The role will initially require a hands-on approach to leading engineering designs for park and trail projects with close collaboration with our landscape architects and other engineers on the team.
Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Civil Engineer with 6 to 10 years of experience in site design with a working knowledge of sustainable design principles. Experience would ideally also include green stormwater infrastructure, utility design, regulatory processes, and a proven track record of successfully completing all phases of projects ranging from master planning and conceptual design through construction documentation and administration.

Ultimately, the successful candidate would evolve into a leadership role to help our team continue to build a growing site-civil engineering practice in the Philadelphia region with a focus on sustainable design. Initially, the position may also involve providing design assistance to our active transportation or water sources/green stormwater infrastructure teams on projects in the public realm. The position is ideally suited for a candidate with experience in site layout, grading and drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control design, construction detailing, specifications, cost estimating, and local and state permitting.

The ideal candidate will have proven abilities as a project manager and possess the necessary skills to successfully manage projects, including the ability to mentor designers, properly schedule deliverables, budgeting, and developing a comfortable rapport with clients, team members, and external partners.

The individual will report to the director of NV5’s Philadelphia office and will assist with managing junior staff. The individual will also assist with marketing pursuits on an as-needed basis.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Technical design duties will include performing and reviewing design, report writing, specification development, scheduling, QA/QC, budgeting, and cost estimating. Project management duties include scheduling, budgeting, and invoicing.
  • The position will require coordination with internal project team members within the Philadelphia office and possibly across several regional NV5 offices, as well as subconsultants, public agencies, clients, participation in project meetings, and assisting other teams in the office as needed.
  • Marketing efforts, such as proposal writing and participating in business development and marketing events and activities will also be needed, though initially the focus of the position would be more on technical deliverables and task/project management.
Qualifications:
  • High degree of enthusiasm to join a multidisciplinary team of engineers, landscape architects, and planners who are trying to improve our local communities through design.
  • PE License in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and/or New Jersey
  • BS or MS in Civil Engineering
  • At least 6 years of design experience
  • At least 1 year of project management experience preferred
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Proficient in Hydrology and Hydraulic Modeling Software (e.g. HydroCAD)
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • A positive attitude and enthusiasm for design and working within a team
  • Ability to balance multiple projects at once
Certifications/Licenses:
  • PE License in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and/or New Jersey
