Shift Supervisor

About the role:

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for all associated duties that support the plant business needs. This role will serve as the key link between plant operating areas the Leader is assigned to, the maintenance/electrical group, and plant management to ensure the most appropriate resources are engaged in problem resolution and the operating area is meeting safety, quality, and production goals.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Ensure the team operates and communicates in a safe manner.
    • Daily safety topics are held, safety incidents are reported, near misses are addressed.
  • Ensure team functions at a high level
  • Tracks and monitors quality and other operational parameters ensuring corrective actions are in place when the process is out of defined parameter or specification.
  • Team member’s development – track technician skill block progression, conduct scheduled periodic reviews, and address poor performance. Facilitate teaching and training.
    • Deliver timely feedback to technicians on performance issues.
    • Deliver annual reviews to each technician within remit and submit to Area Manager for review.
  • Social-addresses poor performance, facilitate conflict resolution. Ensure all posted/required overtime for their team is covered.
  • Tracks and monitors area GMP ensuring corrective actions are in place when standards are not being met.
  • Strong technical Skill Set.
    • Leader must be a technical resource, advanced level trouble-shooter, strong communicator
    • Understand in detail the interaction of their area with the rest of the plant and potential outcomes of process decisions.
  • Coordinate the off shift mechanical/electrical resources through job evaluation and prioritization.
    • Utilization of PC to determine area priorities with respect to plant priorities.
    • Evaluate need for mechanical or electrical support after all other means have been exhausted (can the techs fix).
  • Strong communicator both verbal and written forms
    • Required to talk through game plan with area technicians at the beginning of each shift and follow up throughout the shift to ensure progress or problem resolution
    • Complete both a written and verbal turnover with the incoming Leader
    • Understand who, when, and how to contact appropriate management personnel when a problem or conflict escalates beyond their or the team’s level.
    • Maintain and support a working relationship with the PC and other area Leaders to ensure consistent and timely communication between areas and plant management as area issues and problems are encountered.

Skills and Experience

  • Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be willing to work a 12-hour rotating swing shift including weekends and holidays as scheduled.
  • Waste treatment experience preferred.

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to safely perform the following tasks:

  • Lifting of up to 55 pounds without mechanical assistance.
  • Climb a vertical ladder up to 15ft
  • Climb several flights of stairs, several times a shift
  • Stand for up to 1 hour without sitting
  • Bending and twisting motion at the waist and knees

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is potentially exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions on site. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust. In addition this job also operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
