Job description

Position Description: Performs semi-skilled work under limited supervision. Maintains Town of Steilacoomfacilities, parks, and grounds according to Town standards. This includes emptying trash receptacles, cleaning park restrooms, mowing, trimming, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, and aerating public grounds/parks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Washington State Drivers’ License Combination Class: B with tanker endorsement and be subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
  • Possess a good driving record.
  • Flagging Card (able to obtain within an agreed/specified period)
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Certification (able to obtain within an agreed/specified period)
  • Industrial First Aid Certification (able to obtain within an agreed/specified period)
  • Pass a background check with no convictions for crimes against at risk populations.

Prefer: Prior parks /grounds / building maintenance experience.

Physical Requirements:The position requires being able to read/follow instructions on chemical labels. Theincumbent must be able to drive town vehicles, operate equipment associated with the position, and perform strenuous physical labor in a safe manner. The position requires being able to lift/move up to 60 pounds and involves being able to work at ground level as well as heights normally accessed by ladder. There is frequent walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping. The incumbent must be able to traverse uneven terrain as the primary worksite is the outdoor environment.

Working Conditions:Work requires exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as: working on or near right-of-ways, working with high R.P.M. bladed equipment, and constant exposure to noise. This position requires the employee to work in inclement weather. There is frequent exposure to extreme heat/cold and hazardous materials.

Terms of Employment: This is a full time position. The incumbent may elect to be covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
