We are looking for a Manager, Lab Services

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Team managementDelivers on the committed work on time and within budget and communicate work results and status.

Know what the tasks/user stories/features cost the company.
Act as a partner and mentor through one-on-one meetings, giving feedback, and coaching.
Responsible for personnel management, including employment and performance management.
Responsible for successfully tracking/managing department budget.
Manage and facilitate work item queues in Service Management software (i.e., Freshservice) and ensure adequate tracking of tasks and efforts.
Establish, maintain, and monitor SLAs in relation to service requests, incidents, and work item tracking with appropriate escalation mechanisms
Manage resources and resource conflicts as necessary to ensure work stream success.
Responsible for leading, supporting, coaching, and providing direction to lab technicians and handle daily status, contracted to assist with day-to-day lab duties.
Responsible for procuring materials for department needs and inventory control, manage inventory of hardware components, equipment, products, and other supplies, and procure spare parts, and supplies to ensure all supplies are stocked and available when needed.

  • Lab management responsibilitiesWork closely with the internal customers in identifying required infrastructure.

Responsible Lab Adherence to safety, regulatory, and quality requirements as needed to maintain compliance with lab certifications and local requirements.
Responsible for organizing the lab layout and moving tools, equipment, and inventory as required for optimum performance.
Lab asset management duties including storing hardware, maintaining instrument calibrations, servicing laboratory equipment, and managing equipment and asset database.
Responsible for tracking/renewing software license for the internal customers.
Analyzing and effectively communicating the lab related issues and make recommendations for next steps in lab tools and infrastructure.
Responsible for helping to plan for new locations and spaces accounting for lab growth.
Operate and maintain the test lab, including workflow scheduling, addressing heating issues, addressing capacity and growth needs.
Based on an understanding of product and system requirements and functionality participate in the development of test plans and test cases.
Troubleshoot and repair developmental hardware to the component level.
Perform a variety of RF parameter measurements.
Write test reports and other technical presentations.
Drive the Lab Steering Committee to track and complete the agreed upon outcomes.
Repair, update, and document various radio and radio system test beds
Evaluate suitability of components, cables, and subsystems for use in test beds.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS

Operates under minimal supervision, working to resolve complex problems and implement requirements related to existing and new company products. The supervision will be from Senior Manager for Integration and Endurance Test

AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY

Has authority to make decisions within the scope of the tasks assigned if they conform to the guidelines of the company. Proposed alternatives to existing methods and practices are welcomed and will be considered but are subject to management approval.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB (KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)

  • 3-5 years’ experience in managing a lab team and vendors with a minimum of 4+ direct reports.
  • Minimum of an AA degree in Electronics Technology, related field or Military training.
  • 5+ years’ experience with communication systems and RF product testing, troubleshooting, or repair.
  • Strong electronic and mechanical construction skills.
  • Familiarity in the use of common RF and electronics test equipment including signal generators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes and power meters.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Adept at understanding technical issues to assess project risk and facilitate their resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets, procurement, lab redesign.
  • Experience defining and managing an area of responsibility with the ability to step in and take initiative.
  • Must demonstrate confidence in ability to manage highly skilled direct reports who may have a greater level of knowledge and higher compensation than this position.
  • Experience with safety and regulatory standards
  • Able to effectively motivate team members to set and achieve the corporate and individual goals.
  • Capable of adept navigation of a complex stakeholder environment including management of stakeholder expectations.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with an ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills producing clear and unambiguous communications.
  • Ability to self-manage and exhibit grace under pressure.
  • Familiarity with multiple project development methodologies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate goals, schedule, status, issues and risks to multiple levels both internal and external to the organization.

Desired:

  • Experience with development or testing of wireless systems and products.
  • Experience in using a scripting language, Visual Basic, LabView or other programming language.
  • Working knowledge of common wireless protocols, network topologies, and IT infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of telecom networks.
