General Description

The Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Department is seeking a Building Services Coordinator to perform work of moderate difficulty in the repair and maintenance of building systems, equipment and machinery, and the grounds located at the City of Green Bay's City Hall. Performs other related work as required.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. plus additional hours as required.

No residency requirement.

Examples of Duties

  • Performs mechanical repairs and/or maintenance of machinery and equipment such as boilers, cooling towers, air handling system, pumps, air compressors, water heaters, exhaust blowers, etc. Repairs or replaces plumbing fixtures including toilets, sinks and water fountains
  • Performs minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and masonry work for remodeling and repair projects. Repairs furniture, locks and doors, paints interior of buildings. Maintains floors and carpeting and operates related equipment. Maintains adjacent grounds by cutting grass, trimming shrubbery and removing ice and snow. Reads and interprets blueprints and other technical specifications
  • Locks and unlocks building; may pick up and deliver equipment and supplies. Moves furniture and equipment. Assists supervisor monitoring and controlling usage of operating stocks and supplies. Must carry a cell phone during all work hours and assume limited Park Superintendent's duties in his/her absence.
  • Provides direction to and monitors outside contractors, including coordination and access to mechanical systems and structures. Requests and coordinates contractor assistance to maintain required response time.
  • Monitors, performs maintenance and keeps records on all mechanical equipment and facilities required for safe and efficient maintenance and operations of the City Hall property including walks, drives, parking areas, grounds and buildings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three or more years of experience in a maintenance and repair of large buildings, grounds, equipment and machinery
  • Fourth class boiler license or ability to obtain one within twelve months
  • One or more years experience working with physical plant systems (boilers, pumps, air handling systems), highly desirable.
A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of methods, materials and equipment required for the maintenance, alteration, repair, and cleaning of buildings and facilities; good knowledge of common tools used in building and equipment maintenance and construction work. Good knowledge of occupational and safety precautions, physical plant systems and their operations, including boilers, pumps, and air handling systems.
  • Good knowledge in and ability to analyze and repair such systems. Working skill in the use of hand and power tools and equipment; skill in determining needs for repairs and preventative maintenance to buildings and equipment; above average mechanical aptitude, initiative and resourcefulness in meeting repair problems; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to work cooperatively with administration, staff and the general public.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform the following activities:
  • Lifting up to 75-100 pounds.
  • Carrying up to 75-100 pounds.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying.
  • Ability to reach, seize, hold, grasp, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Ability to work in varied environmental conditions
