SUMMARY

The Senior Web Content Editor assists in managing requests for website updates, content changes and direction and addresses last-minute requests for large-scale website projects. This position will work with museum leadership to understand the strategic direction for the website and bring their perspective and experience to discussions on near term changes and long-term goals. The Web Content Editor will create compelling web pages, visitation guidance and frequently asked question pages, blog posts, collection stories, and electronic publications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Provides guidance and direction to the Web Content Editors and interns in their roles.

Acts as a liaison to the Office of Public Programs and Special Events.

Maintains and updates Exhibitions, Stories and other content based on the editorial calendar.

Sets goals and objectives for the Web Content Editors and monitors their progress.

Ensures that the content created by the Web Content Editors aligns with the museum's strategic direction and messaging.

Updates intranet homepage and departmental sub-pages.

Reviews and approves website content before it is published to ensure accuracy, readability, and appropriateness for the intended audience.

Collaborates with the Web Content Editors & Manager to develop and implement strategies for improving website quality, integrity and traffic.

Provides support to contractors within the Office of Public Affairs.

Stays up to date with industry trends and best practices related to web content management and shares this knowledge with the Web Content Editor and other team members.

Collaborates with other departments and stakeholders to ensure that the website meets the needs of all audiences and serves the overall mission of the museum.

Maintains positive relationships with external partners and vendors involved in website development and management.

Represents Web Editorial Manager in meetings when requested.

Assists in the planning and coordination of long-term departmental goals.

Produces website content in various formats (press releases, blog posts, videos, story maps, timelines, etc.) using Drupal content management system.

Coordinates with subject matter experts in a diplomatic manner to produce website content.

Edits website content for AP Style, readability, accessibility, and SEO – ensuring accuracy, proper grammar, relevance and appropriateness for audiences and user groups.

Manages public website update requests across the museum and monthly publishing calendar to align content with museum themes, priorities, and commemorative moments.

Supports the museum with online exhibitions, collection object acquisitions, monthly campaigns and events/public programs.

Regularly maintains public website newsroom and landing pages; edits existing website content, makes self-directed updates and via weekly development meetings.

Supports quarterly departmental Editorial Meeting planning.

Works collaboratively with web content editors to review, track, and report on website quality, integrity and traffic using Google Analytics and other tools to see what is working or not.

Supports internal communications by producing intranet content, quarterly departmental newsletters and weekly emails.

Research, edits, and produces website content that educates, engages, and inspires diverse audiences in conjunction with museum subject matter experts.

Plans, edits, and supports with the development of online exhibition scripts, promotional content, information, and features pertaining to museum collections, public programs, education and research, and other initiatives.

Demonstrates and applies best practices in all phases and aspects of web design, web development and web content management.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance with all applicable rules (federal, state, local, Federal Acquisition Regulations, Code of Federal Regulations, Prime Contract requirements, etc.) for themselves and the company. Fosters an environment in which they will report any violations or reasonably suspected violation of CNI policy, FAR, and/or CFR and are comfortable discussing the myriad compliance, conflict, FAR, CFR, etc. issues that arise during the performance of a government contract.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in a related field of study and a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience.

CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION

Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred.

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

Strong working knowledge of content management systems, particularly Drupal 9 and SharePoint.

Long-form webpage creation experience, preferred.

Experience editing content for AP Style, readability, accessibility and SEO.

Knowledge of AP Style, preferred.

Familiarity with African American history, preferred.

Demonstrated experience overseeing the development of written and multimedia content for an organization’s website.

Demonstrated experience providing strategic direction on the layout, interface, and content for an organization’s website.

Expert skill in writing, editing, coordinating, and posting content and updates for an organization’s website.

Demonstrated experience collaborating with IT and other departments across the organization, as well as external vendors and customers to manage an organization’s website.

Knowledge and understanding of web and organizational protocols.

Knowledge of User Interface Design principles, industry best practices and design trends with an attention to detail.

Knowledge of multiple design disciplines with an ability to see the "big picture" of a campaign or product.

Excellent presentation and public speaking skills to lead the quarterly curatorial meeting.

Strong interpersonal skills applied to interactions with all levels of authority. Easily communicates with resources across the organization.

Ability to think creatively and to produce new ideas / concepts.

Stays up to date on relative industry trends.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
