Job description

Role Summary

GSDSolutions (just “GSD” for short) is all about "getting stuff done" for our customers and for ourselves, so the person who fills this role should be all about this too! We are looking for a Junior Systems Administrator who will not only help customers with their computer issues (both Mac and Windows) but who will also help GSD build a great corporate culture as well. This position is a hybrid role with some time spent onsite in the East Syracuse office of one of our clients and some time working from home. The percentages may vary week to week. Only candidates currently in the Syracuse area will be considered!

Role Responsibilities

The ideal person for this role will have knowledge of the following (or will become knowledgeable about these technologies post haste):

  • Strong knowledge of desktop OSes: MacOS and Windows
  • Strong knowledge of desktop peripherals, e.g., monitors/LCD webcams, keyboards, mice, docking stations, etc. (Bonus points for video conferencing and phone system experience.)
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) and/or G Suite/Google Apps (Docs, Slides, Sheets, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of antivirus/anti-malware solutions, e.g., Webroot, SentinelOne, ThreatLocker, etc.
  • Clear understanding of printers, managing print queues, direct printing methods (IP and/or Bonjour), etc.
  • Basic understanding of cloud-based systems: Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune, and Google Workspace
  • Advanced understanding of networking (Ethernet, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of wireless networking (WiFi) including, SSID creation/management, WPA2 vs. WPA2 Enterprise authentication, WiFi client configuration, etc.
  • Scripting and Automation (Powershell, etc.)
  • Windows Server (various versions)
  • Firewall/router/modem/switch administration
  • VoIP (RingCentral, 8x8, Zoom, etc.)

Role Requirements

  • Beyond the items noted above in the “Role Responsibilities” section, GSD asks that people interested in this role have at least ONE of the following:
  • 2-year degree (AA/AS) in something DIRECTLY related to computing
  • 4-year degree (BA/BS) in something VAGUELY related to computing
  • 5 to 10 years of “real-world” with Windows systems administration including Local AD and Azure AD management, a solid understanding of network infrastructure (firewalls, switches, APs, etc) and experience with various system/network security tools (2FA, end point protection, etc.). Experience with ThreatLocker and Quickpass a big plus. Using MS Office and Windows is NOT the same as supporting users issues with MS Office and Windows.
  • Great PEOPLE skills! Why “great PEOPLE skills” instead of “great customer service skills”, you ask? Because we want people on our team who will treat their teammates as well (if not better) than our clients. Our clients love our customer service, but they also love how we become a part of their teams.
  • Excellent communication skills! Our clients value our superior level of communication and interaction. Your team members require communication, information sharing, and teamwork. Without excellent communication skills, you will not succeed.
  • A “no excuses” mentality! You accept responsibility for all outcomes in which you participate. In other words, you don’t waste time looking for “fault” or “someone to blame” when things go sideways...you roll up your sleeves and you get “stuff” done!
  • Confidence in your problem-solving abilities! We don’t know everything and YOU don’t know everything…that’s OKAY! That said, you need to convey to us (and by extension our customers) that even though you don’t know a specific answer right now that you are going to figure out that answer and get back to us with it…soon!
  • This position requires the use of a personal vehicle to drive to client sites throughout the East Syracuse area on a regular basis. (GSDSolutions will reimburse for mileage and parking.)

Role Salary and Benefits

While the founders of GSD have a TON of experience in the world of IT consulting, we freely acknowledge that GSD is a new company…so if you’re willing to work with us on salary and benefits, then we will work with you to achieve a salary/benefits package that makes both you and us happy! Are you ready to Get Stuff Done as part of the GSD Team?
