Overview:

AXIENT is looking for a senior individual with military strategy and higher headquarters experience, for a position supporting Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Operational Energy (OE) Innovation office (OE-I) and various OE-I projects. OE-I projects will include development of multi-domain and Space OE strategy, doctrine, and roadmaps. Strategy, doctrine, and roadmaps include the space domain and its integration with other warfighting domains – air, land, sea, and cyber. Strategy, doctrine, and roadmaps will need to be drafted, coordinated, presented, to include recommendations for implementation and classified annexes. The space strategist will also support space OE M&S and its integration into domain wargaming. Modeling projects focus on space and its integration with the other domains and Services. The space strategist will work with the Axient team ensure information is shared to present integrated unclassified and classified products. The Axient team will integrate the M&S and visualization of space and multi-domain OE innovations concepts, with strategy, doctrine, and roadmaps, to support domain wargaming and the delivery of future space and multi-domain capabilities to the warfighter. Work will include:
  • Supporting US and DOD Operational Energy (OE) innovation science and technology (S&T) policy.
  • An understanding of proposed Service future force structures and resulting operational energy needs.
  • Understanding current and future energy technologies and their resulting capabilities to meet multi-domain future force structure needs that gives the US a competitive OE advantage across all domains.
  • Minimizing OE as a limiting factor to military operations of domain future force structures.
  • Enhancing the ability of OE technologies to enhance and enable future force structure capabilities.
  • Collecting and organizing information into a comprehensive strategy with implementation recommendations for use by the OSD OE Innovation office and to be made available to the Service and Combatant Commander operational energy offices.
  • Supporting the OSD OE-I office and its various energy portfolios.
Responsibilities:

SUPPORTING TASKS WILL INCUDE
  • Working with DOD OE and space energy innovation related projects.
  • Working for Axient in support of DOD operational energy assigned portfolios/projects, to enhance effectiveness and efficiency within and across the domains of Space, Air, Land, Sea, and Cyber.
  • Supporting Axient DOD assigned projects, to include the Space Energy Strategy / Space Nuclear Power Study/Strategy (SES-SNUP) and/or the Operational Energy Roadmap and Strategy (ROAST), in collaboration with government labs, academia, and industry that target specific mission-capability gaps identified by the Joint Staff, Services, CCMDs, and DOD leadership.
  • Applying research, technology, engineering, and writing skills in support of this mission. As requested, the candidate will provide recommendations regarding research findings, technical and operational performance, risk, and suitability.


SPECIFIC EFFORTS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:


  • Support research on current and future operational energy technologies and innovations as directed by government program managers and/or project leaders with government organizations and industry.
  • Provide high quality written documentation of research and analytic support efforts.
  • Support the development of software solutions to aid dialogue and collaboration between military operators and military acquirers.
  • Support development of operational energy innovation training and education software.
  • Collaborate with government labs, academia, industry, and across DoD entities (Services etc.) to identify software requirements and specifications.
  • Support the designing of algorithms and flowcharts for new software programs and systems.
  • Support the development of efficient and well-documented code based on stake-holder driven needs, requirements and specifications.
  • Work with the Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation (AFAMS) and other Service M&S offices.
  • Support the compilation of wargame lessons learned, compile and assess user feedback from OSD leadership and stakeholders at DoD wargames.
  • Support coordination of work with Service energy offices, Joint Staff, combatant commanders, to include supporting briefings and meetings as needed to meet OSD Operational Energy Innovation Office objectives.
  • Support organizational meetings and associated communities of interest by coordinating, conducting, and documenting operational energy innovation research with particular emphasis on the Space domain.
  • Track completion of assigned actions and generate written/graphical materials and documents as required.
  • Assist and/or follow/support other administrative requirements necessary for the efficient management of assigned projects.
  • Provide project insights to leaders as they are discovered.
  • Support other efforts and tasks as directed by OSD and Space Force government customer(s) and assigned project leader.
  • Support the exploration of advanced energy innovation technologies and their applications across all domains, including the creation and integration of Space and Air technology roadmaps.
Qualifications:

WORK LOCATION AND TRAVEL
  • Primary work locations include the Pentagon and Mark Center.
  • Alternate sites include Melbourne, FL.
  • Remote work is approved by the customer—OE-I.
  • Work will include domestic and overseas travel that require a current passport.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work requires travel to attend meetings and conferences.
  • Travel includes site visits to remote locations with unimproved surfaces and the ability to navigate industrial surfaces, ascend and descend stairs, and navigate open gantries to observe advanced technologies.
  • Travel may include overseas locations requiring a current passport.
  • Light lifting to move displays and technology mock-ups will be required.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Work will range from unclassified to Top Secret
  • The candidate must be clearable to the TS/SCI level; a current active TS/SCI is preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIRMENTS
  • Twenty five (25) years of experience supporting the Department of the Air Force (DAF) and/or Space Force.
  • Five years in the Washington DC area supporting DOD, AF Space Command or Space Force
  • BS/BA and Master’s degree required
  • Active-duty experience is highly desired.
  • SAASS Grad highly desired.
