Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and results oriented individual to serve as Child Intake and Recovery Administrator, providing focus on children and youth in care who run away, are missing, or have been abducted. Subject to management approval, this position will direct the Child Intake and Recovery Unit and Case Assignment/Placement Unit, providing oversight of emergency services and program personnel, including Team Supervisors and a subordinate administrator responsible for the Case Assignment/Placement Unit. Job Responsibilities

1. As Child Intake and Recovery Administrator, plans, directs, and provides administrative oversight of the Child Intake and Recovery Unit and Case Assignment/Placement Unit


2. Serves as full line supervisor of subordinate supervisory staff


3. Directs and manages the Department’s Child Intake and Recovery Unit


4. Through a subordinate administrator, directs and monitors the operations of the Case Assignment/Placement Unit


5. Represents the Operations Program Administrator and the Department before other state and federal agencies, private organizations, elected officials, and lay groups with regard to child welfare and protection issues impacting the Child Intake and Recovery Unit


6. Serves as a member of the Director’s Executive Staff, providing advice and consultation on operational issues


7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires an MSW or master’s degree in a related human service field.
  • Requires four years of administrative child welfare/child protection experience with an MSW or five years of administrative child welfare/child protection experience with a master’s degree in a related human services field.

  • Requires possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to travel

Term Appointment:

Candidates hired into a term position shall be appointed for a term of 4 years and are subject to a probationary period. The term may be renewed for successive four-year terms at the Director of the Department of Children and Family Services’s discretion.
