Summary:

Direct Clinical: The physical therapist in this position will provide physical therapy diagnostic evaluation, treatment, and consultative services for patients of the UNC Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) participating in both adult and pediatric interdisciplinary clinic. The PT will be responsible for evaluation, team collaboration, and patient/family feedback. The PT will conduct single discipline evaluations and treatment for referred patients. The PT will participate in clinical education of pre-licensure physical therapy students, mentoring of the pediatric physical therapy resident, and participate in the education of other practicum students, interns, residents, and fellows who participate in training in the UNC HTC.

The UNC HTC is a specialized clinic for children and adults with bleeding and clotting disorders. It provides direct comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for patients throughout North Carolina. Services include clinical, laboratory, pharmacy, and research.

The PT in this position is responsible for providing clinical and educational services including evaluation and intervention for acute bleeding episodes, chronic arthropathy caused by bleeding, acute and chronic pain, post-op management following surgical interventions, and related orthopedic and functional concerns in both pediatric and adult patients. Point of care musculoskeletal ultrasound is a part of routine care.. Team collaboration, family feedback and consultation with community care providers are integral components of this position. The position involves seeing patients as part of an interdisciplinary team, acute or urgent visits, and at future outreach clinics throughout North Carolina.

This position also includes physical therapy education and representation at community events such as outdoor recreation events, community education conferences, and hemophilia summer and family camps. Periodic travel to regional and national meetings and educational events will be supported.

Indirect Clinical: The PT in this position ensures timely completion of clinical documentation and responsiveness to clinical requests. The PT participates in other activities appropriate to the discipline, and consistent with the mission and goals of UNC SOM, UNC Health, and UNC HTC. Such activities include, but are not limited to, clinical documentation, consultation and technical assistance to families, community agencies and providers, serving on agency and university committees, and participation in departmental meetings and in-service presentations. Additional activities may include engaging in research appropriate to physical therapy, including collaborative research with other faculty both within and outside of UNC and collaborative physical therapy specific groups within the bleeding disorders community.

Preferred qualifications

Experience working on interdisciplinary teams, using family-centered model of care

Experience with culturally diverse patient populations

Experience with both children and adults with complex developmental and health care conditions

Experience with chronic pain

Experience working with bleeding disorders


Responsibilities:
1. Completes PT documentation in the medical record per department guidelines and completes department records for billing and statistics
2. Evaluates Patient, sets Physical Therapy (PT) treatment goals, devises a PT treatment plan and manages resources needed to perform treatment plan to accomplish the goals set for the patient.
3. Manages PT caseload with efficiency and efficacy
4. Plans and coordinates clinical programs
5. Provides clinical supervision and teaching for multiple students and/or staff. Plans orientation, caseload, and other learning activities. Provides regular feedback and coaching. Evaluates the learner's performance.

Education Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy program.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
  • - Licensed as a Physical Therapist in the state of North Carolina.
  • - BLS
Professional Experience Requirements:
  • Five (5) years of experience as a licensed Physical Therapist, including one (1) year in the specialty field.
