About You
You are an experienced transportation professional who is passionate about sustainability and equity. You’ve had experience working across teams and with diverse stakeholders to advance common goals while contributing your unique expertise and research. You are skilled at diving deep into projects and tasks while keeping the big picture in view. You are dedicated to supporting the business case for advancing clean transportation for a just and sustainable economy.

About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Director, Clean Transportation Program, the Senior Manager is responsible for organizing, coordinating and implementing work with investors, companies, and other key stakeholders toward a sectoral transition to clean transportation Companies with a significant transportation footprint have historic levels of incentives to meet ambitious climate goals with the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) as well as the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) offering once-in-a-generation opportunities. The Senior Manager will collaborate across teams on corporate climate commitments, policy and transition plans. The Senior Manager will administer key projects and campaigns related to the transportation sector and may supervise team members. Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage Transportation Policy and Advocacy Tracking
    • Oversee and track clean transportation efforts at the federal level including at EPA, DOE and DOT, in coordination with internal Ceres departments as well as external partners, toward climate goals inclusive of justice and equity
    • Manage team comments to federal policies, company sign-on letters, investor statements, and other advocacy initiatives, coordinating with internal teams and external partners toward mitigating climate pollution in support of just and inclusive economies
  • Support Program Strategy Implementation
    • Liaise with internal teams to implement transportation strategy including on justice and equity issues as well as private sector clean transportation commitments
    • Support development of emissions-reduction strategy on engaging companies in sectors related to transportation, including electric power and oil & gas, while ensuring environmental equity is a key consideration
  • Develop Research for Corporate and Investor Engagements
    • Oversee research, materials drafting, and strategic guidance on engaging with investors in order to deliver strong policies that reduce emissions in accordance with science-based targets
    • Guide research and writing in support of corporate transportation decarbonization aligned with strong federal and state clean transportation policy initiatives, embedding environmental equity into initiatives
    • Steward and/or conduct research to accelerate transportation sector decarbonization, including road transportation and potentially harder-to-abate sectors such as aviation and maritime, with a particular focus on the business case, environmental equity, and public policy context for investors and companies
    • Support engagement plans with transportation companies that are members of Ceres
  • Other
    • Represent Ceres’ strategic and advocacy voice in engagements with external partners and at strategic convening and events
    • Research, write, and edit communications materials including contributions to website, newsletter, reports, and other publications
    • Support fundraising proposals
    • Supervise interns or staff including hiring, training, evaluation, professional development, and project management oversight
    • Travel as necessary for conferences, speaking opportunities, and company and investor engagements
Qualifications
We understand that there are many paths to acquiring expertise and experience. Therefore, we welcome candidates from diverse and nontraditional backgrounds for this role who have demonstrated equivalent transferable skills to carry out the major duties outlined in this job description, including the following required skills:
  • Minimum of 7 years or more of work experience in transportation sector reform
  • Significant experience working on federal transportation policy and knowledge of federal agencies such as EPA, DOE, DOT preferred
  • Master’s degree in public policy, environmental economics, transportation planning and similar field a plus
  • Experience or strong familiarity with US policies required.
  • Additional knowledge of transportation trends, environmental economics, climate change, policy advocacy, corporate sustainability a plus
  • Successful record of organizing and executing multiple projects, facilitating dialogues with senior-level professionals, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong project management and attention to detail is required
  • Strong speaking and written communication skills for external and internal audiences
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Willingness to travel as needed
Compensation and Benefits
The hiring salary is $86,000 to $90,000 paired with competitive benefits.
