The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time General Maintenance Worker II with the Sugar Land Regional Airport .

Summary of Duties

Are we the right fit for YOU?

The ideal candidate must be able to perform a variety of operations, maintenance, inspections and repair functions specifically related to general maintenance of buildings, hangars, facilities, grounds, taxi-ways, runways, lighting systems, and related equipment. This does NOT include maintenance of aircraft or aircraft support equipment. The Sugar Land Regional Airport encompasses over 600 acres with over 350 acres requiring weekly mowing and grounds keeping maintenance for wildlife mitigation and continuity of airport operations. The General Maintenance Worker II will perform finish mowing and rough-cut mowing of all Airport land, while also performing building, equipment, plumbing and electrical repairs, as well as general landscaping.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment is critical for success in the role, as are high levels of accuracy, timeliness and dependability.

As a General Maintenance Worker II, you will:


  • Daily runway and taxiway inspections for light outages, malfunctions, and foreign object debris.
  • Performs mowing and rough-cut of all Airport land.
  • Performs pavement, building, equipment, plumbing, paint, and electrical repairs as needed.
  • Performs custodial duties in the terminal and all airport facilities as required.
  • Patrols the Airport property for FOD, litter, and debris.
  • Regular on-site attendance is an essential function of this position. [MG1]
  • Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
  • Performs any other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Assistant Aviation Director or Aviation Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Formal Education:


  • High school graduate, GED or equivalent.
Relatable Work Experience:
  • One year of experience as a General Maintenance Worker I with the City of Sugar Land or two years of relatable maintenance experience.
  • Familiarity with fixed based operations and previous airport experience is preferred.
  • Experience with zero turn mowers, agricultural equipment, tractors, cutters, sprayers and other equipment is a plus.
Training (License and/or Certification):
  • Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License
