Position Description


  • Provide detailed review of all data completed in Environmental and Fuels Laboratory. Comply with all ASTM, USEPA and SCDHEC Quality Control/Quality Assurance requirements for certified parameters to insure legally defensible data for regulatory and operational requirements.

    • Essential Job Tasks:
  • Reviews all laboratory data produced in Environmental Resources to ensure that all quality control parameters meet necessary standards.
  • Works with analyst and supervision to correct reporting errors.
  • Qualifies all independent laboratories based on current SCDHEC certifications and review annually.
  • Verifies all COCs for samples sent to contract laboratories prior to sample pick up or shipment.
  • Reviews laboratory data from contract laboratories to ensure that all quality control parameters meet SCDHEC, USEPA and customer requirements.
  • Communicates with contract laboratory project managers to correct quality control issues.
  • Performs routine audits to ensure that all quality control requirements are met as required to maintain SC Laboratory Certification.
  • Performs audits for areas outside of Environmental Resources as requested.
  • Participates in audits performed by SC Laboratory Certification Office and collaborate with Manager Analytical Services to help prepare response for findings involving QA/QC.
  • Supports off-site laboratories with audit preparation and implementation of new quality control or quality assurance measures.
  • Reviews ASTM, EPA, and Standard Methods at least annually to ensure all procedures including Quality Control/Quality Assurance Plan and applicable SOPs meet method requirements.
  • Develops standard operating procedures for new procedures as required.
  • Responsible for scheduling and ordering Proficiency Tests for Environmental and Fuels Laboratory.
  • Reviews data packets and enter results into vendor data information system. Report results to laboratory staff and supervision.
  • Ensures all preventative maintenance is complete on all instrumentation in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and ensure calibration services are completed as necessary including balances, thermometers, and other equipment.
  • Reviews and maintains a record of IDOCs and MDLs and performing check chemistry on environmental analysts annually.
  • Serves as backup to Manager of Analytical Services including, final data validation, generating reports and addressing any other issues during their absence.
  • Serves as backup as Labworks Administrator for Manager Analytical Services.
  • Attends Labworks User Meetings.
  • Assists with Labworks training for internal customers.
  • Assists with Labworks Upgrades when necessary.

    • Position Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related field + 8 years related experience preferred.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SC DHEC Laboratory Certification Protocols.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems for data management.

    • Compensation Information:
    $84,280 - $105,350 (min. - mid.)
