Position Title: Sr. Health Information Specialist

Department: Health Information

Reports to: Program Manager

Pay Range: $19.46/Hr. | Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

The Sr. Health Information Specialist coordinates and maintains all patient records within the center, in accordance with state and federal regulations. This position is responsible for processing and fulfilling requests for specific community stake holders and contracts in a timely and efficient manner while ensuring accuracy and providing our customers with the highest quality product and customer service. The Sr. Health Information Specialist performs quality checks and audits on the electronic medical record (EMR) and must always safeguard and protect the patient's right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient's medical information. The Sr. Health Information Specialist works closely with the Director of HIM to communicate with and assist Meridian's attorney as needed for subpoenas and records requests. The Sr. Health Information Specialist will assist in the training staff from both Meridian staff and community stake holders.

This role requires a high level of analytical, computer, and communication skills. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Health Information Management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Two (2) year of medical record and ROI experience required

Associate's degree in Health Information Technology (HIT or HIM) preferred

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification preferred

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and complete responses to requests for medical records and related information from specific community stake holder and specific contract agencies.
  • Perform ongoing quality reviews and audits of scanned records by reviewing documents for accuracy, legibility, and appropriate identification. Identify trends in scanning errors and report trends to management
  • Organize and manage the retrieval and destruction of records stored off-site
  • Serve as a mentor and resource to less experienced staff and assists with staff training. Also assist in training community stake holders.
  • Provide customer service related duties
  • Additional duties include those requested by the Director of Health Information Management
