Freeman Company located in Fremont, OH has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineering Leader! Our Senior Engineering Leader oversees projects for tooling design that meets customer specifications while maintaining costs and schedules. They coordinate and oversee the daily engineering operations and are responsible to assign work to other engineers, train new engineers, aid engineering staff with problem solving and maintain engineering documentation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the functionality of the tooling design, review the sales order and customer supplied documentation to gain a clear understanding of the project, ensure it meets all criteria, is manufacturable, and meets customer requirements.
  • Responsible for the engineering department schedule and personnel utilization to meet targeted dates and hours deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Train other designers when appropriate and assist in hiring and maintaining current engineering staff.
  • Encourage unity of the engineering department through standardizing and streamlining the design process, ensuring guidelines are followed and new concepts are adapted.
  • Complete and manage annual engineering performance evaluations.
  • Promote staff individual and department growth via training and gaining experience.
  • Maintain design engineering standards, guidelines, and other pertinent documentation.
  • Facilitate engineering continuous improvement efforts.
  • Keep management informed of the project status when dealing with design concerns, customer requests, lack of information, or schedule problems.
  • Represent the engineering department for other group leaders/supervisors/managers and during daily/weekly meetings
  • Maintain open issues log for the project and be the driving force to ensure open issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Develop rapport with the customer contact ensuring an open line of communication is maintained and that the customer is aware of the design direction and design schedule.
  • Schedule design kick-off meetings and design review/release meetings.
  • Take ownership of projects from the design kick-off through start-up ensuring there is a clear understanding of the scope of the project. Initiate management involvement when changes of scope occur whether due to customer changes or project constraints.
  • Provide technical support to sales and manufacturing regarding potential and existing projects.
  • Other duties or tasks as assigned or required.

EDUCATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent 5 years work experience
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in CAD 3D Design; 10 years of Design Experience is preferred
  • Certification in Lean Manufacturing is preferred
  • Knowledge of thermoform tooling manufacturing preferred
  • A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position.

ENVIRONMENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Medium work that requires moving objects up to 50 pounds
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Repetitive motions that may include the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
