We are looking for a Senior Advisor Closure Assurance & Risk to support risk owners at our closed assets to evaluate and maintain quality risk information, whilst assisting leaders in using risk to information business decisions. You will work closely with the Closure Risk Business Partners to support closed assets located primarily in the Americas region. This is a role that will network across a broad range of former mining and processing sites managing complex environment, cultural, social and regulatory risks. In addition, you will also have the opportunity to learn how to coordinate the planning and implementation of closure assurance under the leadership of an experienced assurance manager.

Key responsibilities:

  • Engaging with Closure leaders and asset managers to incorporate risks and actions into annual and multi-year plans, led by the Principal Advisor Governance & Risk.
  • Engaging with Closure leaders and asset managers to ensure risk is embedded into management decisions (ensuring appropriate controls and actions are identified and implemented in a timely manner for material risks)
  • Maintaining quality, currency and connectedness of risk information in Archer and preparing summary reports as required (maintaining agreed asset risk registers, plus study risk support)
  • Coordinating regular risk and controls reviews with risk owners and study leads (supported by Risk Business partners)
  • Provide input into assurance plans and support assurance activities through coordinating the second line assurance program including maintaining assurance program data in Archer
  • Maintaining effective relationships with asset managers, risk owners, assurance providers and recipients across the business.
  • Supports the use/integration of the Archer risk management system into the daily operation of the business and ensure systems are aligned. This will include providing advice on how to use Archer effectively to support risk management

Activities include:

  • Schedule risk and controls reviews to align with local management routines, corporate governance and business planning requirements
  • Follow-up outstanding actions (arising from both risk mitigation and assurance activities) with the respective risk/action owner/s
  • Provide timely risk reporting (including control effectiveness and action status) to regional leadership team and Closure SLT
  • Coach closure leaders/asset managers, risk and control owners to improve understanding of risk management and closure global controls library and its application
  • Support the nomination of risk, action and control owners to relevant risk training, as well as auditors to undertake assurance training
  • Coordinate risk and control review meetings/workshops and maintain any follow-up items.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations to management utilising Risk Information Management Systems wherever possible (eg, Archer and Power BI).
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders and consultants as required.
  • Provide ad-hoc support to the Chief Advisor for risk, assurance and controls reporting

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience either in a risk governance focused role or mining operational/project experience within the environment, communities, or a site-based operational area
  • Relevant background degree in a technical or social sciences area and an understanding of risk management, processes and systems (with Archer experience preferred but not critical)
  • Experience with ISO-31000 and/or assurance would be beneficial but not critical
  • Excellent project management, problem solving and organisational capability, as well as proficiency in PowerPoint
  • Self-starting, proactive approach to developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships.
