Job description
We are dscout. At our core, we are People Nerds. We empower our customers to meet the people who matter to them in the moments that matter most. Customer-obsessed companies and agencies like Salesforce, Sonos, Groupon, and Best Buy use dscout to build better products and services because of people like you. We are building a smart and driven team, and we would love for you to join us.

The dscout team is on the search for an experienced Senior Accountant to support our growing company and more specifically, our Finance team. This role would report directly to our Accounting Manager. You will be responsible for supporting the finance organization’s day-to-day needs by ensuring transactions are reported accurately, accounts are reconciled, and financial statements are prepared timely. The Senior Accountant must have a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), have a keen attention to detail, sound judgment, and an eagerness to learn and contribute to a fast-growing company. Much of this work will be collaborative, and involve close partnerships with many other departments across dscout.

Lastly, while this role will be mostly remote, it will involve some occasional visits to our Chicago HQ for training and leadership opportunities. Because of this, a location within the Chicago area would be preferred. If you're excited to support our growing team by tackling these strategic challenges, we'd love to hear from you!

What you will do (let’s call them Responsibilities):

  • Prepare journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations as part of the monthly close process
  • Oversee billing and cash collection and prepare customer invoices, as appropriate, with a focus on revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606
  • Maintain documentation, records, analyses, and financial reports that validate the financial statements are complete and accurate
  • Produce financial reporting in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States (GAAP)
  • Oversee tax compliance for Sales and Use Tax and Payroll Taxes
  • Work with external auditors and tax advisors with the completion of the annual audit and tax returns
  • Respond to information requests and meet reporting deadlines
  • Assist the Accounting Manager & CFO as needed

What you need to have (we can call them Desired Skills and Background):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, CPA highly preferred
  • 4-6 years of relevant work experience
  • Private and Public accounting experience highly preferred with experience with acquisitions
  • Experience with NetSuite and familiarity with systems that support accounts receivable, accounts payable, expense reporting, and payroll (i.e., Maxio, Expensify, Paycor, Avalara, etc.)
  • Proficiency with systems and previous automation and/or process improvement a plus
  • Prioritizes competing workloads and meets important deadlines
  • Enjoys solving problems and serving customers of the finance organization, internally and externally
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, both oral and written
