Senior Accountant/Assistant Controller

General Description

Responsible for preparing and reviewing financial documents, reports, and statements. Provides management of financial information by researching and analyzing accounts.

Job Duties:

  • Maintains financial records for subsidiary companies by analyzing balance sheets and general ledger accounts.
  • Perform bank account reconciliations accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintains general ledger accounts by reconciling accounts receivable detail and control accounts; adjusting entries for amortizations prepaids; analyzing and reconciling retainage and accounts payable ledgers; preparing fixed asset depreciation and accruals.
  • Prepare and file sales tax and property tax.
  • Maintains accounting controls by following policies and procedures.
  • Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments.
  • Maintains and balances an automated consolidation system by inputting data; scheduling required jobs; verifying data.
  • Corrects errors by posting or adjusting journal entries.
  • Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts.
  • Prepares payments by accruing expenses; assigning account numbers; requesting disbursements; reconciling accounts.
  • Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes.
  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Provides accounting support for mergers and acquisitions by reviewing financial information; converting data to general ledger system; obtaining supplementary information for preparing financial statements.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Advanced ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Self-Motivated with ability to drive tasks to completion.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
  • Experience with Sage is preferred. Software knowledge of a retail backoffice platform.
  • Experience with fuel, retail, or convenience store accounting is preferred
  • 2-3 Years of experience in a retail transactional distribution environment
  • Hands on accounting management experience

Education Requirements

CPA is preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $80,000 - $100,000 per year
