Accordingly, this position provides guidance to students on their course of study, from orientation through applying to health graduate and/or professional school programs. In addition, this advisor educates students on university policies and procedures, goal setting, academic planning, and course selection. The position typically serves as chair or co-chair of the Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC), which includes scheduling and leading meetings, updating committee materials and processes, reviewing student applications, interviewing applicants, writing letters of evaluation school applicants, and tracking acceptances to health professional schools annually. The position will report to the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Advising.
The duties of this position include:
- Advises students and alumni in individual and group settings regarding preparation for applying to health graduate and/or professional schools. Plans and implements workshops, information sessions, and hosts a variety of medical and health professional schools for information sessions.
- Maintains the health professions website, listserv, and social media content. Creates and updates worksheets, handouts, and other resources for health professions students. Refers pre-health students to relevant on and off campus resources.
- Serves on the Health Professions Advisory Committee, which includes scheduling and leading meetings, updating committee materials and processes, reviewing student applications, interviewing applicants, and writing letters of evaluation for 50+ medical/dental school applicants annually.

Stays abreast of relevant changes in the health professions education field by monitoring the professional association websites and listservs.
- Performs general Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) advising duties as necessary (e.g., during “peak times” such as priority registration, new student orientation (NSO), serve on internal office committee(s), etc.) including team advising of undergraduates, commencement, and other events as needed; maintain student records in DegreeMAP and GW Documents; review and clear students for graduation; and other duties as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Candidate has prior experience in pre-health advising and/or has served on a Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC).
