Full Time

DESCRIPTION:

The Security Training & Awareness Specialist support client with enterprise IT Security training, awareness, and communications support. The candidate will work directly with the Director of IT Security to develop and present IT security information to Smithsonian personnel and assist with administration and support of security training.

LOCATION:

  • Reston, VA (1 day on-site)

DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITES:

  • Research IT security topics and develop training and awareness materials.
  • Develop monthly security awareness email newsletter.
  • Work with client personnel to develop and deliver presentations on a variety of security topics to Smithsonian personnel.
  • Collect and consolidate content from stakeholders for annual update to security awareness training course.
  • Assist with administration and support of online Computer Security Awareness Training (CSAT)
  • Perform tracking of security awareness and role-based training compliance. Send reminders and provide reports to management.
  • Conduct surveys, meetings, and other assessments to determine client computer security training needs and develop content to address those needs.
  • Develop and present content in a variety of formats and platforms (potentially presentations, videos, tip sheets, posts, collaborative discussions, etc.) to effectively reach audiences.
  • Assist with coordination and planning for IT Security Committee (ITSC) activities.
  • Work with client staff to develop Knowledge Base articles on security topics.
  • Plan and coordinate client’s participation in National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) and other security awareness activities throughout the year.
  • Maintain online catalog of available role-based security training.
  • Assist with planning and conducting phishing simulation exercises and tracking results.
  • Update and create security documents (e.g. policies, procedures, tip sheets, instructions, etc.) as requested and provide editorial support to client team members.
  • Monitor security training mailbox and respond to customer enquiries.
  • Assist with other security communications such as distribution of security alerts.
  • Provide support for development and delivery of Disaster Recovery and Incident Response training exercises.
  • Ensure Smithsonian compliance with security training requirements and best practices.
  • Maintain records and evidence of training and communications for review by IG audits.
  • Use client’s Service Desk ticketing system to track and address assigned tickets.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with project teams and customers. Develop effective working relationships with colleagues and project stakeholders.


REQUIRMENT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent writing, interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences in a broad range of formats to inform, collaborate and advise personnel throughout the organization.
  • Must be well-organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to coordinate, prioritize multiple tasks, and be adaptable to change to accomplish assignments.
  • Has at least a basic understanding of computer security awareness topics, with ability to develop additional knowledge.
  • Ability to independently perform online research and develop instructional materials based on information collected.
  • Ability to deliver in-person and online presentations and training to a variety of audiences
  • Possesses creativity and independently generates ideas.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Experience with other collaboration tools and online platforms would be a plus but is not strictly required.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with team. The contractor must be responsible and capable of working with minimal supervision to effectively achieve the goals stated above, but also work well with others.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Computer Science/Computer Engineering, Engineering, Science or a related field. Two years of related work experience may be substituted for each year of degree-level education.
  • Certifications (one or more is desired): CISSP, CAP, CASP, Sec+
