JOB DESCRIPTION


JOB TITLE:
Security Ambassador (Hired through EduStaff)

LOCATION: Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary

REPORTS TO: Building Principal


JOB SUMMARY:
Position will survey and monitor security in the building and around the premises for the purposes of keeping the students Safe. Position is responsible for maintaining order and discipline, preventing crime, investigating student violations of school board policies and procedures. Position assists the administrative staff with enforcing policies and procedures for safe and orderly schools at the building level. Position rotates duties among the building when directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma with experience or training in a security related field or, any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must possess the ability to acquire knowledge of School Board policies and procedures and Student Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Must possess knowledge of, and the ability to apply, standard security procedures and best practices.
  • Proven ability to meet the challenges of an urban-rural, multi-racial, and multi-ethnic school district.

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the school buildings, grounds and parking lots to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law and/or school board policies.
  • Assist administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.
  • Supervises and directs student movement.
  • Notifies the administrative staff, police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations.
  • Prevents unauthorized visitors from entering school buildings and/or loitering on school grounds.
  • Participates in providing security for all occupants of the school buildings and grounds.
  • Assists with fire drills and other emergency building evacuations.
  • Prepares reports and assists in special assignments as directed.
  • Represents school district in court-related matters.
  • Maintains security records, logs and reports.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Good knowledge of police and security techniques
  • Good knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques employed in establishing and maintaining building security.
  • Skill in observing and detecting unusual occurrences or behavior.
  • Ability to use computer applications, calendar, email and database software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school personnel, subordinates and the general public.


Funding Source:

If this position is funded using Title dollars, federal regulations do not allow a promise of employment beyond the current year of allocated funds. If this position is funded using state program dollars, the district is not obligated to fund the position beyond the current year's allocation. This position, at any time, may be dissolved based on funding availability and data collected from a comprehensive needs assessment.
