Seasonal House Manager

The Colorado Chautauqua Association (CCA) is a 501(c)3 Colorado non-profit corporation dedicated
to preserving, perpetuating, and improving the site and spirit of the historic Chautauqua by
enhancing its community and values through cultural, educational, social, and recreational

General Purpose/Description

The House Manager is a seasonal (mid-May thru early October), part-time, non-exempt, non-
benefited position responsible for the management and supervision of event and parking staff
during public events at Chautauqua Auditorium, as well as for the general upkeep, cleanliness and
security of the venue and surrounding areas. Evening and weekend work is required in meeting
position responsibilities. For emergency and inclement weather reporting purposes this position is
essential.

Duties and Responsibilities

House Operations

  • Manage a team of event and parking staff to ensure they are operating effectively and
cooperatively at all Chautauqua Auditorium events and festivals.
  • Communicate with back-of-house staff and box office to resolve any ticketing or production
related issues.
  • Work together with venue security to ensure guest safety and crowd management, smooth
ingress & egress, venue policy enforcement, etc.
  • Perform functions of event and parking staff as needed, including scanning tickets, parking
enforcement, venue setup and breakdown, cleanup.
  • Work with promoter representatives to solve any issues they may have and to ensure event
runs smoothly.

  • Ensure venue compliance with all city and state regulations pertaining to venue occupancy,
noise regulations and curfews, parking and traffic management, ADA access, and alcohol
sales and consumption.
  • Responsible for the general upkeep and cleanliness of Auditorium, Community House and
surrounding areas.
  • Implement CCA’s emergency response plans when necessary.
  • Follow and enforce any current State and County COVID-19 regulations.


Staff Management

  • Assist the General Manager and Public Events Manager in training and supervising event
staff and parking staff.
  • Ensure that all event and parking staff follow CCA safety guidelines, house policies and
procedures including the operations of CCA equipment and CCA emergency response plans.
  • Collaborate/interface with the Colorado Music Festival production team, staff and
volunteers.
  • Interface with vendor security to ensure all positions are staffed and event information has
been communicated.
  • Create a professional team atmosphere.
  • Lead and act as positive role model.


Customer Service

  • Demonstrate excellent customer service attitude and orientation to all patrons and guests.
  • Effectively and amiably problem solve when issues or challenges arise.
  • Assist ADA patrons with seating.


Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • 1-2 years of house management or directly related event management experience.
  • Knowledge of general venue management practices and procedures with experience in
performing arts venue preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to listen well.
  • Ability to function efficiently and amiably in a fast paced, complex and demanding customer
service environment.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Able to coordinate and execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Past experience in a supervisory rule preferred.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to General Manager, Public Events and Programming & Public Events Manager
Supervises: Seasonal Event Staff and Seasonal Parking Staff

Technical Skills

Requires ability to use Microsoft Office as well as other software programs pertinent to the
performance of the position.

Physical Requirements

Duties require lifting, pushing, pulling and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Must be
able to climb stairs, ladders as well as navigate the site which has a 200-foot elevation change.
