Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy is a Catholic, Dominican, independent, college-preparatory, day and boarding high school whose mission is to educate young women for a life of faith, integrity and truth. The ideal candidate will be experienced in integrating technology into their teaching, and ready to consider emerging technologies to enhance learning and student engagement. We are looking for a teacher who will convey a love for research, participate in the school community outside the classroom, to support the mission of the school, and to collaborate with colleagues in interdisciplinary research-based assignments. As part of an integrated and dynamic faculty, all teachers are involved in co-curricular programs and should share in a commitment to a holistic approach to educating young women. In addition, teachers will exhibit excellent classroom management, communication, and organization skills along with an ability to connect with parents, students, and colleagues in a professional manner.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Design and implement regular formative and summative assessments to measure student learning
  • Proficiency in curriculum planning, instruction, and assessment.
  • Willingness to serve on a collaborative team as a research advisor to groups of 11th and 12th grade students.
  • Demonstrate skill in fostering a learner-centered classroom environment and challenge students to apply knowledge to real-life problems.
  • Be a reflective educator who models intellectual curiosity.
  • Actively participate in the school’s culture of inquiry and seek out opportunities for professional development to enhance content knowledge and pedagogical skill.
  • Ensure students will learn how to explore and read scholarly articles and be introduced to foundations of research in relative field.
  • Demonstrate how to conduct literature reviews and develop a research proposal.
  • Ensure students refine their experimental design, implement the research plan and communicate their findings.
  • In addition to teaching responsibilities, this role would include a two-course release to manage the equipment and budget for the research lab and to support STEAM within the school and through our community partnerships.

More specifically the role would include

Working directly with science faculty to enhance scientific research skill development at each level of our curriculum.
Conducting equipment training for faculty and students.
Tracking chemical/product certifications of research lab purchases for the Safety Department.
Assisting Department Chairs with budget planning for research
Attending relevant committee and department meetings (Science, Social Science and research).
Developing a lunch and learn program to include STEAM and psychology fields by locating speakers.
Arranging relevant field trips.
Working with Department Chairs to
Maintain and promote a list of external summer STEAM and psychology programs for students.
Identify and promote external internships for students.
Identify marketing avenues and promoting/publicizing STEAM and psychology research programs.
Organizing program events and an annual showcase to celebrate student STEAM and psychology research.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant area.
  • Master’s degree; 3-5 years high school teaching experience is preferred.
  • Experience with academic technology and/or an enthusiastic willingness to be trained to employ new tools.
  • Laboratory research experience
  • Experience working independently and in a collaborative environment
  • Experience with innovative teaching strategies; such as mastery-based learning, project-based learning, modeling, POGIL, inquiry labs and/or case studies.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range.
