Job Description
Title: Bus Driver
Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old. Must have a valid Class B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements. Must be certified and licensed by the South Carolina Department of Education. Must have a good driving record. (No more than 4 points against the license.) Must have 10 hours of driving experience under the supervision of an experienced driver. Must pass a drug test and criminal background checks. Must demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates a bus over a route that has been designated and approved by the Director of Transportation and the State Department of Education.
- Operates equipment in accordance with all state laws and regulations
- Maintains discipline of students being transported, and reports misconduct to the transportation administrators for appropriate disciplinary action using the incident report provided.
- Maintains a clean appearance of the equipment, and reports any vandalism or equipment failures to the immediate supervisor.
- Provides written reports of road hazards on assigned routes.
- Coordinates route changes with students' parents.
- Maintains up-to-date status of students to the transportation office.
- Attends safety meetings.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date daily records on mileage and timesheets.
- Uses all Lexington District Three equipment responsibly.
- Exhibits acceptable conduct as a Lexington School District Three employee in keeping with School Board policies.
- Maintains current required driver's license and other operator's certification.
- Administers general first aid when needed. 14. Performs other related duties as required.
Essential Functions:
In addition to the physical and mental capabilities implied by the responsibilities detailed above, the essential functions of a Bus Driver include the following: reading, writing, hearing and speaking effectively, occasionally lifting/moving items weighing 50 pounds, physical demands related to the operation of a school bus wherein one is required to drive, operate a handbrake and other bus controls.
The job of Bus Driver involves adapting to a changing educational environment and therefore while accurate, is not exhaustive.
