The School Behavioral Health Clinician will be responsible for providing services related to the delivery of mental health care to assigned clients at the designated school locations and will provides consultation services to the school staff to support the overall mental health goals of the school.


School Behavioral Health Clinician carries case load of children, ages 3-20 depending on the assigned school(s). Clinician may be assigned to one or more schools. Clinician will provide billable clinical services at the school site. Clients/students often have significant behavioral and emotional issues as well as living in high stress environments.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES

  • 1. Conducting clinical intakes which require knowledge in assessing DSM diagnostic criteria.
  • 2. Provide Evidence Based Treatment to children and their families. Develop treatment plans and treatment plan updates.
  • 3. Provide case management, individual therapy, family therapy and group therapy within school setting and as needed in clinics, and document in the organization’s assigned electronic health record.
  • 4. Maintain quality and detailed clinical documentation in the electronic health record.
  • 5. Work within clinic as a provider (when assigned) and community to act as liaison and/or providing support, information, and referral as needed.
  • 6. Referrals to psychiatrists, medical psychologists, clinicians, behavioral health specialists and case managers as needed.
  • 7. Provide consultations to parents, guardians, and school personnel.
  • 8. Clinician will collaborate with teachers, counselors, school social workers, and appropriate school personnel when necessary.
  • 9. Provide crisis intervention services.
  • 10. Familiar with "Best Practices" treatment modalities.
  • 11. Contribute to the overall success of a multi-disciplinary team of service providers.
  • 12. Demonstrate sound clinical judgment, strong communication skills and flexibility.
  • 13. Provide support and actively work with the school social worker/counselor and assigned graduate level interns.
  • 14. Travel is required to the school therefore appropriate reliable transportation is required.
  • 15. Prepares and supports patients and families in dealing with stressful circumstances and crises in their lives.
  • 16. Arranges, accesses and coordinates patient/family pre and post crisis care.
  • 17. Maintains working knowledge of and liaison with community agencies and resources.
  • 18. Provides teaching and training for students, staff and providers as it relates to basic behavioral health assessment and interventions.
  • 19. Leads the team in crisis management, while providing appropriate interventions.
  • 20. Documents in the EMR record that meets the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and the behavioral health practice standards.
  • 21. Maintains a working knowledge of relevant medical/legal issues that impact patient care, e.g. advance directives, child and elder abuse.
  • 22. Participates in regular supervisory conferences; keeps current with social work and health care developments and enhances professional practice and knowledge.
  • 23. Provides clinical orientation to the School Behavioral Health Clinician role for newly hired providers and staff, and for members of the Integrated Team.
  • 24. Participates in all meetings related to the BH Department, Medical Home Model, NCQA and School Behavioral Health Clinician.
  • 25. Participates in clinical and programmatic outcome evaluations.
  • 26. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Employee will be required to travel from time to time and must be willing to work various shifts to accommodate needs of various sites.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is normally performed in a clinic, office environment, school or mobile unit with varying temperatures.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling psychology or related field required.
  • License required (LCSW, LPC, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with children and families required.
  • Able to use computer based information system and electronic medical record.
  • Awareness of legal and ethical issues related to clinical work and case management.
  • Proven ability to effectively engage clients, successfully advocate for clients and to work well with professionals.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle for transportation required.
  • Demonstrates caring and concern for community.
  • Exhibits professional behavior and possesses good organizational and communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable about behavioral health issues within a school setting.
  • Able to work with various age groups.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable
  • 5 years work experience in behavioral health/mental health services with adults, children, adolescents or youth.
